Mangsit, Senggigi, west Lombok
★ 4.5(980 reviews)
Katamaran Resort is a 36-suite boutique hotel on the southern Mangsit beachfront in Senggigi, with rooms from 2,200,000 to 5,500,000 IDR per night. It targets the design-conscious mid-luxury traveller with all-suite layouts, a striking oceanfront infinity pool, and a strong Italian-Indonesian kitchen. The property is smaller and quieter than The Kayana next door and trades private pools for larger interior space and stronger food.
# Katamaran Resort Senggigi: All-Suite Italian-Inflected Beachfront
Katamaran is the most design-coherent boutique on the Mangsit beachfront — a 36-suite property opened in 2013, owned and operated by an Indonesian-Italian partnership that runs both the hotel and the restaurant directly. Unlike its all-villa neighbours, Katamaran offers suites only, which keeps the price point a notch lower and the guest mix slightly different.
The Italian DNA shows up everywhere. The architecture leans modern Mediterranean rather than tropical Sasak. The restaurant is a proper Italian operation rather than a token "international" menu. The property's named for the Sasak fishing catamarans, but the design references are firmly European.
Three categories of suite. Junior Suites (entry tier, 2,200,000–3,000,000 IDR) are 55sqm garden-facing rooms with a separated lounge area and a king bed. Ocean View Suites (3,000,000–4,200,000 IDR) are upper-floor units with proper sea-facing balconies. Beachfront Suites (4,500,000–5,500,000 IDR) are ground-floor units with direct pool/beach access from the terrace.
For most couples, the Ocean View Suites are the sweet spot — you get the view, the balcony, and avoid the pool deck noise that carries into ground-floor units. Skip the Junior Suite unless you're price-sensitive and only need the room for sleeping.
Same Mangsit beachfront as The Kayana, 100 metres apart. From Katamaran: 8 minutes to central Senggigi, 25 minutes to Mataram, 30 minutes to Bangsal harbour, 75 minutes to Lombok International Airport, 90 minutes to Kuta Lombok.
The walk to the small Mangsit restaurant cluster (3 independent kitchens within 200 metres) is one of the better 'walkable evening' setups in the Senggigi corridor — most guests do at least one dinner outside the resort.
Olio Restaurant is the standout. The chef is Italian, the pasta is made fresh daily, the pizza oven runs lunch through dinner, and the Italian-leaning wine list (mostly Australian and South American at 600,000–1,200,000 IDR per bottle) is properly considered. Mains 180,000–380,000 IDR. Even Lombok residents drive in for dinner here, which is the strongest endorsement available.
Breakfast is included and good — properly cooked eggs, fresh fruit, a small Indonesian station, decent espresso. Lunch service runs lighter (sandwiches, salads, pastas) and works well by the pool.
The 30-metre infinity pool is the property's photo-hero — long, lit at night, infinity-edge straight to the ocean. The pool deck doubles as the sunset bar from 5pm and runs until late. This is where the social action happens.
The spa is small (three treatment rooms) and books out fast — reserve on arrival if you want a peak-time slot. Treatment quality is good; pricing is mid-tier (700,000–1,400,000 IDR for 90 minutes).
Honest knock: the beach in front of the property has narrowed over the last two seasons due to coastal erosion, leaving a smaller sand strip than older guest photos suggest. The pool, beach bar, and ocean swimming are unaffected, but if you wanted long-beachfront walks directly from the room, walk south 5 minutes to a wider section.
Book Katamaran for couples who care about food, who want a properly designed mid-luxury suite, and who don't need a private pool. Strong choice for foodie travellers who'll do at least three dinners on-property. Also good for guests who want walkable Mangsit dining variety in addition to the resort kitchen.
Skip Katamaran if you specifically want a private-pool villa (book The Kayana next door), if your trip is family-led with kids needing programming, or if you want a large resort with multiple restaurants and bars.
