Hilltop yoga with panoramic bay views above Kuta

Ashtari Yoga offers what might be the most beautiful yoga setting in Indonesia — an open-air shala perched on the hilltop above Kuta Lombok with a 270-degree panoramic view across Kuta Bay, Selong Belanak, and the surrounding green hills. Practicing sun salutations here as the actual sun rises over the landscape is a genuinely transcendent experience that elevates a yoga class from exercise into something approaching meditation. The yoga program is run by rotating international teachers who bring diverse styles: vinyasa flow, hatha, yin, restorative, and ashtanga are all represented across the weekly schedule. Classes run twice daily — a morning session at 7:30am and an afternoon session at 4:30pm, both lasting 75 minutes. The morning class catches golden-hour light; the afternoon session builds toward sunset. Drop-in classes cost IDR 120,000; a 5-class pass is IDR 500,000; and a 10-class pass is IDR 850,000. Teacher training programs and multi-day retreats are offered periodically — check the website for the current schedule. Mats and props are provided. The shala is a beautiful bamboo structure with a polished concrete floor and no walls — just wooden pillars and a thatched roof, open to the breeze and the view. Classes are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners, with modifications offered throughout. After class, the Ashtari restaurant below serves excellent healthy food and smoothies — the perfect post-practice meal. The hilltop location means you need your own transport; the road up is steep and winding. Arrive 15 minutes before class to settle in and absorb the view.
