Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Lombok's most spectacular jungle waterfall

Tiu Kelep is the crown jewel of Lombok's waterfalls — a thundering 42-meter cascade that plunges into a deep, swimmable pool surrounded by lush tropical jungle. The trek to reach Tiu Kelep is a proper jungle adventure that takes about 45 minutes each way through dense forest, crossing the river multiple times on stepping stones and logs. You pass the smaller but beautiful Sendang Gile waterfall on the way — most visitors stop at both. The trail can be slippery and challenging, especially after rain, so wear proper footwear (not flip-flops). A local guide is mandatory and costs IDR 100,000 per group — they will help you navigate the river crossings and point out wildlife along the way. Entry fee is IDR 20,000 for foreigners. The waterfall itself is breathtaking: the sheer volume of water creates a permanent mist that rainbows dance through on sunny mornings. You can swim in the pool at the base, but the force of the water is powerful. The surrounding jungle is home to monkeys, tropical birds, and giant butterflies. The drive from Mataram takes about 2 hours; from Senggigi about 2.5 hours. Come early in the morning (before 9am) to avoid the crowds and catch the best light. Bring a dry bag for your phone and valuables — you will get wet.
