Sendang Gile Waterfall

Sendang Gile is a stunning twin waterfall complex on the northwestern slopes of Mount Rinjani, accessible via a well-maintained trail from the village of Senaru. The hike to the first waterfall takes just 20 minutes on a paved path with steps, making it accessible to most fitness levels. The waterfall itself is about 31 meters high, cascading down a moss-covered cliff face into a pool surrounded by tropical vegetation. The spray creates a natural mist that keeps the area refreshingly cool. For more adventurous visitors, a steeper trail continues 30 minutes further to Tiu Kelep waterfall — a larger, more powerful cascade of about 42 meters that drops into a wide pool deep enough for swimming. The trail to Tiu Kelep involves crossing the river several times on stepping stones (waterproof shoes recommended) and scrambling over some rocky sections. The reward is worth the effort: standing at the base of Tiu Kelep as the water thunders down is one of Lombok's most exhilarating natural experiences. Local legend says that swimming in the pool takes one year off your age. Entry to the waterfall area costs IDR 10,000 for domestic visitors and IDR 20,000 for international visitors. A local guide is required (IDR 100,000-150,000) and genuinely useful for navigating the Tiu Kelep trail. The trailhead is in Senaru village, about 2.5 hours from Senggigi and 3 hours from Kuta. The waterfalls are most impressive during and just after wet season (November-April) when the water flow is at its peak. Arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds and catch the best light filtering through the canopy.
