The Sekotong snorkeling tour is one of Lombok's best-kept secrets — a full-day boat trip that takes you island-hopping around the "Secret Gilis" of Southwest Lombok. Unlike the main Gili Islands (Trawangan, Air, Meno), these tiny islands — Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, Gili Kedis, and others — see a fraction of the visitors, meaning the coral reefs are in pristine condition and the beaches are often completely empty. A typical tour departs from Tawun harbor around 9am and visits 3-4 islands throughout the day, with extended snorkeling stops at the best reef spots. The marine life is extraordinary: healthy hard and soft corals in vibrant colors, schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and occasionally reef sharks. Lunch is typically served on one of the islands — freshly grilled fish, rice, and sambal prepared by the boat crew right on the beach. Snorkeling equipment is included in the price. Tours cost IDR 300,000-500,000 per person for a group boat, or IDR 1,500,000-2,500,000 for a private boat (up to 6 people). The private option is worth it for the flexibility and comfort. The boat trip from Tawun to the first island takes about 30 minutes. Bring sunscreen (reef-safe please), a hat, water, and a waterproof camera. The sea is calmest between April and November.
