Sasak Heritage Cultural Tour

The Sasak Heritage Cultural Tour is a full-day guided experience that takes you beyond the beaches to explore Lombok's rich cultural identity. Led by Pak Hasan, a retired Mataram university lecturer with deep knowledge of Sasak history and traditions, the tour covers sites that most tourists never discover. The day begins in Mataram at Pura Meru, Lombok's largest Hindu temple, where Pak Hasan explains the complex Hindu-Muslim coexistence that defines the island's character. From there, you visit the old Ampenan harbor district — once the heart of Lombok's spice trade — with its Dutch colonial architecture, Chinese shophouses, and bustling traditional market. The tour then heads south to Banyumulek pottery village, where you watch artisans shape clay using techniques unchanged for centuries and can try making your own pot. Lunch is at a traditional Sasak warung in the countryside, where you eat the same food in the same style as local families: seated on the floor, eating with your right hand from a communal spread. The afternoon includes a visit to Lingsar Temple (a unique site sacred to both Hindus and Muslims), a traditional Sasak village with original thatched-roof compounds, and a stop at the Narmada Water Palace, built in 1727 as a replica of Mount Rinjani's crater lake. The tour costs IDR 600,000 per person (minimum 2) including air-conditioned transport, all entrance fees, lunch, and bottled water. Duration is 8 hours with hotel pickup at 8am.
