Kuta Surf Lessons

Kuta Surf Lessons is a small, locally owned surf school run by Kadek and his team of three Sasak surfers who between them have over 40 years of experience riding the waves around South Lombok. Unlike the larger surf schools that focus exclusively on Selong Belanak's gentle beginner wave, Kadek offers a progression-based program that takes students from their first whitewash rides through to surfing proper green waves at Kuta Beach, Gerupuk Bay, and beyond. The beginner session (IDR 200,000 for 2 hours) takes place at Kuta Beach or Selong Belanak depending on conditions, using soft-top boards on forgiving waves. Once you can consistently pop up and ride, Kadek moves you to the inside break at Gerupuk Bay (IDR 300,000 for 2.5 hours including boat ride), where you learn to paddle out, read waves, and turn. Advanced coaching (IDR 400,000 for 2.5 hours) is available for experienced surfers who want to improve their technique at Gerupuk's faster reef breaks or other South Lombok spots — Kadek will take you to whichever break suits your level and the day's conditions. Multi-day packages are available: 5 sessions for IDR 800,000. Video analysis is included in intermediate and advanced sessions — your instructor films you from the shore or boat and reviews the footage with you afterward. All equipment is included. Kadek speaks excellent English and has a talent for explaining the mechanics of surfing in simple, memorable terms. He also has deep local knowledge and can advise on conditions, tide times, and which break to hit on any given day. Book via WhatsApp with at least a few hours' notice.
