Gili Trawangan Sunset Cycling

One of the most enjoyable activities on Gili Trawangan is also one of the simplest: renting a bicycle and riding the 7 km coastal path that circles the entire island. With no cars, no motorbikes, and no traffic lights, Gili T is a cyclist's paradise — just you, the bike, and the ocean on both sides. The full circuit takes about 60-90 minutes depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take photos (which will be often). The path is mostly flat and paved on the east coast where the hotels and restaurants are, becoming more rustic on the quieter south and west sides where you might be the only person in sight. The best time to ride is late afternoon, starting around 4pm, so you arrive on the west coast in time for sunset — the view from the quieter western shore, with the sun dropping between Bali and Lombok, is genuinely spectacular. Bicycle rental is available from numerous shops along the main strip, with prices starting at IDR 50,000 per day for a basic beach cruiser. Some places offer better quality bikes with gears for IDR 75,000-100,000. No booking is needed — just walk up and choose a bike. Check the tires and brakes before riding off. The southern section of the island has some sandy patches where you might need to walk your bike briefly. Bring water, sunscreen, and a camera. The path passes the famous swing photo spots on the east coast, the turtle hatchery, and several quiet beaches on the south and west that most tourists never discover. It is a simple activity that captures everything magical about island life.
