Transport guide · How to get from Kuta Lombok to Lombok International Airport (LOP)
Kuta Lombok to Lombok International Airport (LOP) is the shortest transfer on the island — just 25 km and 30–40 minutes by car. Private transfers run 150,000–200,000 IDR, hotels often arrange free or 100,000 IDR pickup for guests, and the scooter ride is a straight 25-minute glide through rice paddies.
| Method | Time | Cost | Comfort | Frequency | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private driver | 30–40 minutes | 150,000–200,000 IDR | On demand, 24/7 for advance bookings | Any flight departure; the default choice for comfort and reliability | |
| Hotel airport transfer | 30 minutes | Free (higher-end hotels) or 100,000–150,000 IDR (guesthouses) | Scheduled with your hotel booking | Guests of Novotel, Selong Selo, Pullman, or any hotel with a transfer desk | |
| Self-drive scooter (day flights only) | 25–30 minutes | 15,000–20,000 IDR petrol (if you already have the scooter) | Anytime during daylight | Short-trip return flyers, locals, or friends doing a return-drop |
30–40 minutes · 150,000–200,000 IDR
Tip: Late-night flights (after 10pm) cost 20% more because drivers charge a night surcharge. Worth it — this is not the drive to do yourself in the dark.
30 minutes · Free (higher-end hotels) or 100,000–150,000 IDR (guesthouses)
Tip: If your hotel offers a free airport transfer, take it. The 'free' price is a genuine value add worth 150,000 IDR. Verify the car has working AC and seatbelts before committing.
25–30 minutes · 15,000–20,000 IDR petrol (if you already have the scooter)
Tip: Only feasible if you're returning to Kuta after a short trip or if a friend is with you to take the scooter back. Otherwise you're abandoning a rental bike.
Book a private driver through your hotel or a WhatsApp contact the night before — 150,000 IDR, 30 minutes, done. This is the simplest transfer in Lombok and there's no reason to overthink it. Hotels with free airport transfer included: always take the offer.
# Kuta Lombok to LOP Airport: The Easiest Transfer on the Island
The drive from Kuta Lombok to Lombok International Airport (LOP, formally BIL — Bandara Internasional Lombok) is the single easiest cross-island transfer you'll do on this trip. It's 25 kilometers of mostly flat road, passes through rice paddies and a couple of small towns, and takes 30 minutes outside of the rare traffic events. The airport is in Praya, roughly halfway between the south coast and Mataram, which means south coast travelers (Kuta, Selong Belanak, Mawun) are the closest population to LOP on the entire island.
For international departures, leave Kuta 2 hours before your scheduled departure. LOP is a small airport, check-in is fast, and security rarely takes more than 15 minutes — but arrive an hour early and you'll be sitting in the departure lounge with limited food options. For domestic flights (Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar), 90 minutes before departure is sufficient.
Flight delays out of LOP are common but rarely exceed 60 minutes. Check your airline's live status before leaving Kuta — if there's a 2-hour delay announced, you gain back breakfast time.
The drive north from Kuta takes you through Sukarara (weaving village, worth a 10-minute stop if you have a flight buffer) and past rice paddies that look especially good in the green late-afternoon light. There are no tourist attractions directly on this road, but the palm-fringed stretches between villages are beautiful in their ordinariness. If you're leaving Lombok and feeling sentimental, this drive is a decent final image.
Lombok International Airport has one main terminal. International and domestic use the same check-in hall, with separate gates after security. There's one main food court (adequate but overpriced), a couple of duty-free shops, and decent free WiFi. The airport has a proper prayer room and clean bathrooms throughout.
Cash exchange at LOP is worse than anywhere in Kuta — change your remaining rupiah in Kuta town if possible. ATMs at the airport work but charge an international withdrawal fee on top of whatever your home bank charges. Card acceptance for food and drinks is mixed.
Don't assume you can Grab from Kuta to LOP reliably — Grab coverage in Kuta is weak and you can wait 15–25 minutes for a car to accept. Book a private driver in advance instead.
Don't schedule connecting flights with less than 3 hours at LOP — the airport has had occasional delays that ate 90-minute buffers on transit.
Don't try to sleep through your airport wake-up call — LOP morning check-ins can be busy during the 6am rush because most international departures cluster between 7am and 10am.
