Kuta Surf Shop

The rental fleet covers the full beginner-to-intermediate range:

• Soft-tops — 7' to 9'6", 75k IDR/day. Beginner boards for Selong Belanak whitewater and Are Guling reform.
• Mini-malibu / funboards — 7' to 8'2", 100k IDR/day. Intermediate boards for Kuta beach reform and Inside Gerupuk.
• Performance longboards — 9' to 9'6", 125k IDR/day. For Mawi Inside on small days and Selong's outer waves.
• Funboards / hybrids — 6'4" to 7'4", 110k IDR/day. The mid-range choice for most travelers.
• Shortboards — 5'8" to 6'4", 150k IDR/day. Limited stock; book ahead for peak season.
• Fish and twins — 5'6" to 6'2", 130k IDR/day. Good for Outside Gerupuk and Inside Mawi.

Multi-day rentals get discounts: 6 days for 5, 13 days for 11, that kind of structure.

Deposit is your passport (held during rental) or a 2 million IDR cash deposit. The shop logs your name and accommodation. Most boards must come back the same day; multi-day rentals can stay at your accommodation overnight.

If you're staying long enough to justify buying, the shop sells new boards from established Indonesian shapers and second-hand boards from departing travelers:

• New shortboards (Pukas, JS Industries, local shapers): 6–12M IDR.
• New longboards (Walden, Stewart imports, local shapes): 8–15M IDR.
• Used boards: 3–7M IDR depending on condition. Inventory rotates with the season.

Used boards are a smart choice for surfers staying 3+ weeks — buy on arrival, sell back when leaving. The shop will buy back at roughly 60–70% of the original price if the board is in similar condition.

Ding repair is one of the shop's most useful services for traveling surfers:

• Small dings (1–3 cm, no glass cracks): 100–150k IDR, 2–3 hour turnaround.
• Medium dings (3–6 cm, broken glass, dry foam): 200–300k IDR, same-day or next-day.
• Major repairs (broken nose/tail, structural cracks): 350–500k IDR, 1–2 days.

The on-site technician uses Solarez and proper polyester resin work. Quality is solid — boards repaired here surf properly afterward.

• Wax — Sex Wax, Mr. Zog's, Sticky Bumps. 50–80k IDR per bar.
• Leashes — 6'–10', 250–500k IDR.
• Fins — Future and FCS systems, 400–1.5M IDR per set.
• Traction pads — 400–700k IDR.
• Board bags — 500k–1.5M IDR depending on size.
• Reef boots — 350–500k IDR (genuinely useful for Mawi reef walk-out).
• Sun shirts and rash guards — 200–400k IDR.

This is the shop's quiet superpower. Staff members surf the local breaks daily and will give you honest answers about which spot suits the day's conditions, the swell direction, and your skill level. Don't expect them to give away the secret breaks — Mawi and Outside Gerupuk are no secrets — but they'll save you wasted hours paddling out to spots that don't work on the day's conditions.

Specifically useful conversations:

• First-time south Lombok surfer: ask about the daily conditions board, which they update each morning.
• Intermediate looking to step up: ask about Inside vs Outside Gerupuk and when each works.
• Photographers: ask about water-photo opportunities and timing.

Location: Main Kuta strip on Jalan Pariwisata Pantai Kuta. Walking distance from any central Kuta accommodation.

Hours: 7am to 9pm daily. Pick up rentals before your morning session — the shop opens before sunrise rentals get tight.

Boat connections: For Gerupuk, the shop can arrange boat boys to take you to the breaks (~150k IDR per person, 1.5 hour session, leashed-rental discount when bundled).

Payment: IDR cash, USD cash, Visa/Mastercard (3% surcharge).

Anyone surfing in south Lombok will pass through Kuta Surf Shop within their first day. It's the default. Skip only if you brought your own quiver, in which case the wax-and-accessories side is still useful. For pure board rental, the cheaper hostel options exist but the boards are typically beat up — Kuta Surf Shop is worth the small premium.
