World-class surf break and untouched bay in Southeast Lombok

Ekas Bay is a large, sheltered bay on Lombok's southeast coast that has earned a cult reputation among intermediate-to-advanced surfers for its world-class waves. The bay is home to two main breaks: Inside Ekas, a fun, playful left-hander that works well for improving intermediates, and Outside Ekas, a powerful, hollow reef break that demands experience and respect. Both breaks are accessed by boat from the shore, with local fishermen offering transport for IDR 100,000-200,000 per session. Beyond surfing, Ekas Bay is simply a beautiful, undeveloped stretch of coast that looks much as it did decades ago. The bay's calm inner waters are ideal for stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming, while the outer sections offer excellent snorkeling on healthy reefs. A handful of surf camps and eco-lodges have sprung up along the bay, catering to surfers seeking an alternative to Kuta's growing scene. Accommodation ranges from IDR 200,000 for a simple beachfront room to IDR 800,000 for a more comfortable eco-lodge with meals included. The fishing village of Ekas sits at the head of the bay and offers a glimpse of authentic Sasak coastal life — fishermen mending nets, children playing on the beach, women drying fish in the sun. A few basic warungs serve simple meals at local prices. Getting to Ekas takes about 90 minutes from Kuta on roads that range from good to rough. The final stretch through the village is unpaved but passable by motorbike. Bring cash — there are no ATMs. The lack of development is Ekas Bay's greatest asset and its greatest appeal.
