# Gili Air Boat Dock: The Quieter Arrival
Gili Air's boat dock is on the south side of the island, smaller and significantly calmer than Gili Trawangan's main dock. Most arrivals are from Bangsal (public slow boat), Teluk Nare (dedicated Gili Air speedboats), or inter-Gili connections from Trawangan or Meno.
Like Gili Trawangan, the Gili Air "dock" is really a beach landing — boats run up onto the sand, passengers disembark into shallow water, and walk up the beach. The dock area includes:
Compared to Gili Trawangan, Gili Air's dock is noticeably calmer. Fewer touts, smaller crowds, more relaxed atmosphere. Part of why many travelers prefer Gili Air over Gili T.
Gili Air is smaller than Gili Trawangan (about 2 km in diameter vs Gili T's 3 km). Walking distances from the south dock:
For most accommodations and most travelers with light luggage, walking is the natural choice.
Gili Air has fewer cidomo carts than Gili Trawangan (smaller demand) but they're available at the dock for arrivals. Negotiate price BEFORE boarding:
Initial quotes from drivers will be 150,000-200,000 IDR — push back firmly. Cidomos are slow on Gili Air (sandy paths) so they're useful mainly for luggage transport rather than speed.
The Gili Air south dock area has:
Less commercial than Gili T's main dock area but still functional.
Gili Air's dock handles inter-Gili public boats to Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, plus the public boat back to Bangsal Lombok.
For day-tripping to other Gilis, the public boats are the standard choice. Schedule is loose ("Gili-time approximate") but reliable enough for typical day trips.
Pre-book departure tickets at your Gili Air accommodation or at one of the dock-area ticket offices the day before. Arrive 15-30 minutes before scheduled departure. Boats sometimes leave a few minutes early if full.
For the public Bangsal boat back to Lombok, expect departures in the morning (typically 8-10 AM) and afternoon (around 2-3 PM). The Bangsal route is the cheapest exit option.
1. Boat slows as it approaches Gili Air beach
2. Crew anchors in shallow water (1-2 m from shore)
3. Disembark down a wooden plank or directly into water
4. Walk up the beach to dock area
5. Decide transport (walk or cidomo)
6. Head to your accommodation
The whole process is fast — 5 minutes from boat anchor to walking inland. Less chaotic than Gili Trawangan arrivals.
