Transport guide · How to get from Senggigi to Gili Air
Senggigi to Gili Air is a 45-minute fast boat (300,000–400,000 IDR) from the Senggigi jetty, or a 30-minute drive to Teluk Nare + 20-minute dedicated Gili Air speedboat (150,000 IDR boat + 150,000 IDR taxi). Teluk Nare is the calmer, cheaper choice for Gili Air specifically — the crossings run more reliably.
| Method | Time | Cost | Comfort | Frequency | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi to Teluk Nare + dedicated Gili Air speedboat | 30 min drive + 20 min boat = 50 min | 150,000 IDR taxi + 150,000 IDR boat = 300,000 IDR | Boats roughly every 45 min daylight | Most travelers going specifically to Gili Air | |
| Senggigi fast boat direct | 45–60 minutes | 300,000–400,000 IDR | Limited — some Senggigi boats call at Gili Air; some only Gili T | Senggigi guests who prefer not to take a taxi leg |
30 min drive + 20 min boat = 50 min · 150,000 IDR taxi + 150,000 IDR boat = 300,000 IDR
Tip: This is slightly cheaper AND more reliable than the Senggigi direct route. The only downside is the 30-minute taxi leg.
45–60 minutes · 300,000–400,000 IDR
Tip: Not all Senggigi fast boats serve Gili Air. Verify at booking.
Use the Teluk Nare route. It's cheaper, calmer, more reliable, and the 30-minute taxi is the only 'cost' compared to the Senggigi direct boat. Teluk Nare's dedicated Gili Air speedboats run more frequently than Senggigi's combined fleet.
# Senggigi to Gili Air: Why Teluk Nare is Usually Better
For Gili Air specifically, the Senggigi fast boat isn't always the best option — even though you're already in Senggigi. The reason is that Senggigi fast boats were built to serve Gili Trawangan's tourist flow, and the Gili Air service is a secondary add-on. Teluk Nare harbor (30 minutes north of Senggigi) has dedicated Gili Air boats that run more frequently and more reliably.
Teluk Nare is a small harbor between Senggigi and Bangsal, used mostly by private speedboat operators and a few scheduled shuttles. It's quieter than Bangsal (no tout scene) and closer to the Gilis than Senggigi (shorter crossing). For Gili Air in particular, the Teluk Nare boats are:
The catch: you need a 30-minute taxi ride from Senggigi to Teluk Nare, which adds 150,000 IDR. Total cost is 300,000 IDR vs 300,000–400,000 IDR for the Senggigi direct — similar or slightly cheaper.
If your hotel is at the far south end of Senggigi (Mangsit area) and you have a specific Senggigi boat departure that calls at Gili Air, the direct route is fine. Some morning Senggigi boats do run this route. Confirm at booking.
Otherwise, default to Teluk Nare.
