Traditional Sasak lumbung (rice barn) cottages in a garden setting

Lumbung Cottage offers one of Lombok's most culturally immersive accommodation experiences — the cottages are designed in the style of traditional Sasak lumbung (rice barns), with distinctive high-peaked thatched roofs, wooden construction, and raised platforms. But unlike an actual rice barn, these are comfortable guest rooms with proper beds, mosquito nets, fans, and ensuite bathrooms with hot water. The property sits in a beautifully maintained tropical garden with a small swimming pool, surrounded by Tetebatu's lush rice terraces and tropical forest. The ambiance is serene — birdsong replaces traffic noise, and the only disruption is the occasional call to prayer from the village mosque, which adds to the cultural atmosphere rather than detracting from it. There are 10 cottages in total, ranging from standard rooms at IDR 300,000 per night to the larger family cottage at IDR 500,000. All rates include a generous Indonesian breakfast served on the garden terrace. The restaurant serves solid Indonesian cuisine for lunch and dinner — the soto Sasak (Lombok-style coconut soup) is particularly good. The property employs local guides who lead walks through the surrounding rice terraces and to the nearby Jeruk Manis waterfall (IDR 150,000 for a half-day guided walk). Cycling tours of the village area can also be arranged. WiFi reaches the common areas but not individual cottages. The nearest town for supplies is Kotaraja, about 15 minutes by motorbike. This is the ideal base for experiencing Lombok's highland interior.
