Simple rooms amid rice terraces with Rinjani views

Tetebatu Mountain View is a family-run homestay that offers one of Lombok's most authentic accommodation experiences. The property consists of four simple but clean bungalows scattered through a tropical garden bordered by working rice paddies, with Mount Rinjani towering in the background on clear mornings. The rooms are basic but comfortable: double bed with clean linens, mosquito net, ensuite bathroom with cold-water shower (the mountain air makes hot water less essential than you might think), a small terrace with two chairs, and a fan (no AC — the 700m elevation keeps things naturally cool). What the rooms lack in luxury they make up for in atmosphere — you fall asleep to the sound of frogs and running water and wake to birdsong and the sight of mist rolling through the rice terraces. The family serves excellent Indonesian breakfast (included): nasi goreng, fruit, toast, and strong Lombok kopi. They can also prepare lunch and dinner on request — Ibu's ayam taliwang is genuinely outstanding. The owner, Pak Mudin, is a licensed Rinjani trekking guide and can arrange anything from a gentle rice terrace walk (IDR 100,000 for 2 hours) to a full 3-day Rinjani trek. He also runs waterfall trips and Sasak village tours. Rooms cost IDR 200,000-250,000 per night including breakfast, which represents remarkable value. No WiFi — bring a book and a sense of digital detox. The nearest ATM is 20 minutes away in Kotaraja, so bring cash.
