Most Kuta accommodation reception desks aren't staffed at 4:30am. When booking dawn pickup, tell Salim where to wait (street outside, hotel parking, specific landmark) and he'll be there. He doesn't honk — he texts you a "saya sudah" (I'm here) message at the agreed time.

For Selong Belanak dawn sessions: pickup 4:30am, drive 30 minutes, in the water at 5:15-5:30 for the first light push. Returns at 8:30-9am once the wind picks up.

For Mawi dawn sessions: pickup 4:45am, drive 25 minutes, in the water 5:30. Mawi has shorter quality windows so the dawn-to-9am session is the sweet spot.

Ekas is on a separate peninsula east of Kuta — a 90-minute drive each way through fishing villages and seaweed farms. The reward is uncrowded reef breaks with consistent quality on south swell. Salim will do a day-return trip (600,000 IDR) or arrange overnight stays at Ekas guesthouses for multi-day surf missions.

Bumbang Island requires a short boat hop from Awang on the southeast coast. Salim handles the drive to Awang and the boat negotiation (typically 200-300k IDR for a return boat charter).

Are Guling is a smaller, more advanced break west of Selong Belanak. Less frequented and worth the trip on the right swell. Salim knows the access road.

He won't drive you to a break in conditions where it's clearly flat or unrideable. If you insist on going, he'll go but he'll tell you upfront it's not worth it. This is a feature, not a bug — it saves you mornings.

He won't carry surfboards on a bungee-cord setup if your group somehow accumulates more boards than rack capacity. Either upgrade to the HiAce or leave the extras at the homestay.

He won't break local etiquette at the breaks. If you're aggressive in the lineup or paddle-ditch on locals, expect him to mention it on the drive home. Lombok surf etiquette is real and matters.
