# Rahmat Lombok Tour Driver: South Coast Specialist
Rahmat is the driver to call if you're staying in Kuta Lombok or arriving at LOP airport with south coast plans. He lives in Praya, 10 minutes from the airport, and knows the south coast beach circuit, traditional Sasak villages, and the rough back roads to Tetebatu the way only someone born in central Lombok can.
The south coast of Lombok — from Selong Belanak through Mawun, Kuta, Tanjung Aan, Bukit Merese, and Gerupuk — is where most independent travelers want to spend their time. The beaches are world-class, the surf is famous, and the pace is more relaxed than tourist-heavy Senggigi.
But the south coast roads are not the well-maintained arterials of Mataram-Senggigi. They're narrow, locally-trafficked, and sometimes washed out in wet season. A driver from Mataram or Senggigi will get you there but will drive cautiously and unfamiliarly. A south coast local like Rahmat knows which beaches have access via which back lanes, which warungs serve real Sasak food vs tourist food, and which villages you can visit respectfully without an organized tour.

Day tours (8-10 hours):
Multi-day (3+ consecutive days):
This is Rahmat's strongest tour. Full-day from Kuta covering:
1. Selong Belanak (8am): Wide white-sand crescent beach, surf school territory, calm shallow water
2. Mawun (10am): Smaller horseshoe bay with two parking access points and palm-shaded warungs
3. Mawi (11:30am): Surfer-favorite beach with strong reef break (watch don't swim unless surfer)
4. Lunch (1pm): Local warung in Kuta or beachside grill at Tanjung Aan
5. Tanjung Aan (2:30pm): Long curved beach with two distinct sand textures (pepper sand south, sugar sand north)
6. Bukit Merese (4pm): Hill above Tanjung Aan with 360 sunset views
7. Sunset and return (6pm): Back to Kuta
Rahmat handles the timing, the parking-access negotiation at each beach (most have informal parking attendants who collect 5,000-10,000 IDR), and the warung selection. He doesn't take commission from any of the food stops.
Sade village is a tourist-organized but still-living Sasak settlement on the road between Kuta and Praya. Visits include a guided walk through the bamboo-thatched houses, weaving demonstrations, and the famous "berugak" lounging pavilions where Sasak families spend afternoons.
Rahmat's value here is that he speaks Sasak with the village guide and ensures you get a genuine cultural visit rather than the rushed-shopping version that some tour buses get. Entrance donation is voluntary, typically 30,000-50,000 IDR per person.
He doesn't drink alcohol (he's a practicing Muslim) so he won't suggest or stop at beach bars. If you want a sunset cocktail at Boho Beach Cafe or El Bazar, he'll drop you off and pick you up later, but he won't sit at the bar with you. This is a cultural preference, not a judgment.
He stops for Friday prayer between 12:30 and 2pm. He'll tell you in advance and either return early to base or pause at a mosque. This adds about 90 minutes to a Friday day tour, so consider booking other days if your itinerary is tight.
Travelers based in or arriving into Kuta, families wanting a structured south coast day, anyone interested in genuine (not theatrical) Sasak village visits, and visitors who appreciate working with a local rather than someone driving in from Mataram. Skip if your trip is Senggigi-and-north focused, if you specifically want a driver who'll drink with you at sunset, or if you need 5+ passenger capacity.
