# Jali Kitchen Gili Trawangan: The Pan-Asian Dining Room
Jali Kitchen opened in 2019 in a renovated bamboo compound 200 metres inland from Gili Trawangan's main harbor. The owners — a French-Indonesian couple with restaurant backgrounds in Bali and Singapore — built it as a deliberately upscale dining room aimed at travelers tired of the casual cafes and surf-bro venues that dominate Gili T's restaurant scene.
The result is the most polished restaurant on the island: a high-ceilinged open-air space with bamboo construction, hanging plants, brass fixtures, soft lighting, and a serious kitchen running pan-Asian dishes from across the region.
Indonesian (110-220k IDR):
Thai (110-160k IDR):
Vietnamese (95-160k IDR):
Sharing plates and starters (75-130k IDR):
Vegetarian section (substantial, clearly marked):
Jali Kitchen has the best cocktail bar on Gili T — a proper bartender, fresh ingredients (no sour mix shortcuts), house-made syrups and shrubs, and a rotating seasonal menu. About 18 signature cocktails plus standards.
Signatures (130-180k IDR):
Standard cocktails (130k IDR): margarita, mojito, gin and tonic, espresso martini.
Wine: 12 bottles by the glass (95-160k IDR), bottles 480k-1.2M IDR. Beer (Bintang large) 65k IDR.
A genuine value play during day hours: set lunch includes choice of one main (smaller portion of the dinner menu — pho ga, pad thai, vegetable curry, or nasi campur) plus iced tea or fresh juice. Available 11am-3pm only.
A typical dinner for two:
Without cocktails (water, juice, beer): 600-800k IDR for two. Premium Gili T pricing — significantly more than warungs and casual cafes, comparable to Pearl of Trawangan, justified by atmosphere and pan-Asian breadth.
The set lunch (95k IDR for main + drink) is the value play — proper Jali Kitchen quality at warung pricing.
The dining room is the most refined on Gili T. About 24 tables across two zones — a main open-air room with bamboo construction and a smaller covered terrace at the back. Soft acoustic music in the background, ceiling fans (no AC needed in the open layout), brass fixtures, hanging plants and ferns.
The crowd is mixed — Western couples on date nights, Indonesian government and corporate visitors from Jakarta, the occasional dive shop owner celebrating a good week. Conversation volume rises when full (it's a high-ceilinged space) but never gets disruptive.
The bar at the back is the social heart — bar seating for 8 with a view of the cocktail action.
Friday and Saturday: book 1-2 days ahead via WhatsApp +62 819 1788 5577. Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday usually fine to walk in. Bebek betutu requires 24-hour pre-order.
Strengths: best pan-Asian breadth on Gili T; cocktail program is genuinely excellent; atmosphere is the most refined on the island; vegetarian options are substantial; set lunch is real value; rendang and Balinese duck are properly slow-cooked.
Weaknesses: premium pricing for dinner; set away from main strip (5-minute walk); loud when full; pho can be hit-or-miss depending on the chef on shift; no view — interior dining only.
Best for: couples on a date night; travelers wanting the most refined Gili T dining room; cocktail enthusiasts; Indonesian government and business visitors; vegetarians wanting substantial pan-Asian options; foodies wanting both Indonesian classics and Thai/Vietnamese done well.
Skip if: you're on a tight budget (try warungs); you want beachfront views; you want quick casual food; you find polished restaurants stuffy; you only want Italian (try Mama Pizza or Regina); you came to Gili T for the surf-bar scene (try Casa Vintage or beach clubs).
