# Pearl of Trawangan: The Special-Occasion Dinner
In a Gili T restaurant scene dominated by mid-range beach restaurants and casual warungs, Pearl of Trawangan operates in a category of one. It's the only properly upscale fine-dining seafood restaurant on the Gilis — small (12 tables), expensive (1.5–3M IDR for two with wine), and unapologetically positioned for special occasions. If you're spending a 4-week honeymoon on Lombok and want one genuine date-night dinner, this is where you book it.
Two main format options:
Tasting menu (5-course) — 850,000 IDR/person, 1,200,000 with wine pairing
A curated 5-course menu changing seasonally, typically:
1. Amuse-bouche (small plate, often local-influenced)
2. Cold seafood course (sashimi-style or ceviche)
3. Hot fish course (grilled or pan-seared)
4. Meat course (lamb, beef, or duck)
5. Dessert (chocolate, fruit, or sorbet)
Tasting menu (8-course) — 1,400,000 IDR/person, 1,950,000 with wine pairing
Extended tasting with more amuse, an additional fish course, a cheese course before dessert, and petit-fours.
A la carte — 280,000–550,000 IDR per main
For travelers who want a single dish rather than a full tasting.
Tuna tartare (320,000 IDR): Hand-cut sashimi-grade yellowfin from local fishermen, citrus-soy dressing, avocado, sesame, micro-greens. Among the best raw fish dishes in Lombok.
Whole salt-baked branzino (520,000 IDR): Mediterranean sea bass baked in salt crust, deboned tableside. For two, with sides.
Pan-seared local snapper (380,000 IDR): Skin crisp, meat moist, served with seasonal vegetables and a butter-caper-lime sauce. The signature single-fish dish.
Slow-braised lamb shank (450,000 IDR): For the non-fish course. Imported Australian lamb, red-wine reduction, mashed potato.
Chocolate fondant (95,000 IDR): Warm chocolate cake with molten center, vanilla ice cream. Standard dessert done properly.
Wine pairing: 4 glasses to match the 5-course menu, mix of Italian, French, and Australian. Approximately 350k for the basic pairing flight, 550k for premium.
Pearl of Trawangan sits inside the Pearl Beach Lounge complex on Gili T's west sunset coast, but the restaurant itself is a separate dining pavilion — covered, ceiling fans, sand floor, beachfront views. Tables are spaced for privacy (rare on Gili T), with proper linens, glassware, and candles.
Sunset coincides with the first course at the standard 6pm seating — order drinks at 5:45pm, sit down at 6, watch the sun drop behind Bali while the amuse arrives. The timing is genuinely magical and is part of the value proposition.
The dress code is "smart casual" by Gili standards — i.e., a clean shirt, no swimwear, ideally not flip-flops though no one will refuse you. The atmosphere encourages dressing up a notch.
The fish is the test. Pearl of Trawangan's claim to sashimi-grade is genuine — they source from a small group of Lombok fishermen who ice the catch immediately and deliver same-day. The tuna tartare and any sashimi-style preparation reflects this. Other restaurants on the Gilis serve "fresh fish" that's been on ice for 1–3 days; Pearl is committed to same-day or next-day max.
The lamb and beef are imported Australian, not local. The vegetables are sourced from Lombok's highland farms.
The kitchen is properly trained for dietary modifications. Vegetarian tasting menu available with 24 hours' notice (650k for 5-course). Vegan available with more notice (48 hours). Gluten-free options across the menu. Allergies handled with full kitchen attention — flag at booking, confirm with the waiter.
Halal: Pork is not on the menu. Most dishes are halal-compatible; the wine and certain sauces require staff confirmation.
Bookings essential — WhatsApp +62 819 1633 9900 a week ahead in shoulder season, two weeks in peak (July–August, Christmas–New Year). Specify any dietary requirements at booking. Tasting menu requires confirmation 24 hours ahead so the kitchen can prep.
Smart casual recommended. Long pants for men, sundress or equivalent for women, closed shoes encouraged. The restaurant won't refuse you in flip-flops and a t-shirt but you'll feel underdressed.
Power: PLN with double-redundancy generator setup. Cuts are bridged within 5 seconds, kitchen continues without interruption. Generator noise occasionally audible from the back tables during extended outages.
Water: Restaurant facilities are upscale — proper bathrooms with hot water, designed for the price point.
Mosquitoes: Coils and an outdoor mister system run during dining hours. November–March, repellent provided at the host stand.
Cards: Visa, Mastercard, AMEX accepted with no surcharge.
Couples on a special-occasion dinner — anniversary, honeymoon, milestone birthday, proposal. Travelers who want one fine-dining experience during their Lombok trip. Wine drinkers who want a real list. Anyone who values quality over backpacker pricing.
Skip Pearl of Trawangan if you're on a budget (you can eat for two days at warungs for the price of one Pearl dinner), if you're traveling with very young children (the atmosphere isn't kid-suited), or if you want a casual barefoot Gili experience (this isn't that — by design).
