Gili Meno west coast (north section)
★ 4.6(320 reviews)
Mahamaya is Gili Meno's most established sunset bar — a small beachfront cocktail venue attached to the boutique resort of the same name on the west coast. The setting is essentially private-feeling because Gili Meno is the quietest of the three Gili islands. Cocktails run 100,000–160,000 IDR, the bar closes by 10pm, and you may find yourself drinking with fewer than 20 other people.
# Mahamaya Sunset Cocktails: Drinking on Lombok's Quietest Island
Gili Meno is the smallest, quietest, and least-developed of the three Gili Islands. Where Gili Trawangan has rotating party nights and Gili Air has wellness-retreat sunset cocktails, Gili Meno has approximately three bars and a population of perhaps 600 people. It's the honeymoon island. People come here specifically to not have a nightlife scene.
Mahamaya is the closest thing to a destination bar that exists on Gili Meno. It's the beachfront cocktail venue attached to the Mahamaya Boutique Resort on the island's west coast, and it functions as the unofficial answer to "where do you go for a drink on Meno?"
The bar is built into the Mahamaya Resort property, fronting onto a quiet stretch of west-coast beach. Beanbags and loungers on the sand, a small raised deck for table seating, traditional thatched-roof bar structure, and an unobstructed view west toward Bali. On clear days you can see Mount Agung silhouetted on the horizon at sunset.
The bar is technically open to non-guests (Mahamaya welcomes external visitors for sunset cocktails and dinner) but the small crowd often consists primarily of resort guests with a handful of day-trippers from Gili Air or Trawangan.
The "quiet" of Gili Meno is real. On most evenings the bar holds 15 to 30 people — including resort guests. There is no music loud enough to require raising your voice. Conversations from the next beanbag carry. This is either a feature or a bug depending on what you came for.
Sunset on Gili Meno falls at the same time as the other Gilis (5:45pm to 6:30pm depending on season). The Mahamaya beachfront catches it directly. Without crowds blocking the view, you have unobstructed sightlines and there's no jostling for beanbag positions.
For couples this is the most romantic sunset bar in the Gili Islands. The combination of quiet, beach setting, and the consistency that comes with resort-attached service makes it the choice for honeymoons and anniversaries.
Cocktails run 100,000–160,000 IDR. The cocktail program is solid resort-standard — well-made margaritas, mojitos, piña coladas, plus a few signatures using local fruits. Try the Watermelon Basil Smash (130k IDR) or the Coconut Espresso Martini (150k IDR).
Bintang large bottle is 60,000 IDR — resort pricing, more than any of the inland Meno warungs charge but standard for the beachfront resort context.
The food menu is the strongest on Gili Meno. The resort kitchen serves Indonesian classics (rendang, gado-gado, grilled fish in banana leaf) at 130–200k IDR plus Western options (pasta, risotto, burgers, fresh fish mains) at 180–280k IDR. Quality is genuinely good — pair sunset cocktails with dinner and you have a complete evening.
Wine is available with a small but considered list (60–90k per glass for house, full bottles 350k–600k).
Quiet. The bar makes no attempt to be a party venue. Music stays in chill house and acoustic territory at conversational volume. Crowd skews heavily toward couples — honeymooners, anniversary trips, couples who specifically chose Meno over the busier Gilis.
Solo travelers exist on Gili Meno but they're rare and they're typically here for diving, photography, or specifically the quiet. If you're solo at Mahamaya you'll likely find yourself eating dinner with a book — which is fine and intentional.
The bar is a 5-minute walk along the west-coast path from Gili Meno's main harbor area. Easy to find — the resort signage is clear and the beachfront layout is obvious from the path.
Getting back to Gili Trawangan or Gili Air after the bar: you can't easily. The public inter-island boats stop running in late afternoon and the last reliable transfer is around 4–5pm. After that you commit to either staying overnight on Gili Meno or arranging a private boat charter (expensive, 500k–1M IDR depending on negotiation). Most visitors plan around this — they either day-trip to Mahamaya for sunset and leave by 4pm boat, or they stay overnight on Meno.
For overnight visitors not staying at Mahamaya: walk back to your accommodation along well-defined paths, generally safe. The island is small enough that nothing is more than 20 minutes' walk away.
If you're staying on Gili Meno — Mahamaya is essentially your default bar option. If you're on a Gili Meno honeymoon or romantic trip — this is the bar. If you want the quietest possible sunset cocktail experience in Lombok. If you want above-average resort-quality food paired with the bar.
Skip Mahamaya if you want a social atmosphere (Meno is the wrong island), if you want budget pricing (resort-tier costs), if you want late-night options (10pm close), or if you can't easily commit to staying on Meno overnight.
