Gili Trawangan west coast (south sunset section)
★ 4.5(1,390 reviews)
Exile Beach Bar sits on Gili Trawangan's quiet west coast and anchors the island's Saturday party night. Daytime it's a chill sunset cocktail bar with beanbags on the sand; Saturday nights it transforms into the most picturesque large-scale party on the island. Cocktails run 100,000–160,000 IDR and the sunset show is unobstructed.
# Exile Beach Bar: Gili Trawangan's West-Coast Saturday Party
Exile Beach Bar occupies a stretch of Gili Trawangan's west coast that's quieter than the main eastern strip but more developed than the deep-south beach. On most nights it's exactly what the name suggests — a place to disappear from the main strip and watch the sun drop with a cocktail. On Saturdays it becomes the island's most photogenic big-party venue, with a packed dance floor on the sand and DJs spinning under the stars.
The Gili T rotating party-night calendar gives Saturday to Exile, and the Saturday Exile party has become the closing-credits event of the island's weekly cycle. The production includes a guest DJ (typically the strongest international booking of the week), extended hours to 4am, additional sound rigging on the beach, and a crowd density that fills the venue from the sunset hour through to the early morning.
If you can only do one party night on Gili T and you want the most beach-setting Instagram-worthy version of it, Saturday at Exile is the answer. The west-coast location means the sunset coincides with the early party hours and the sky stays photographable late.
Exile is one of the three main west-coast sunset bars on Gili T (alongside Pearl Beach Lounge and a handful of smaller spots). The sunset view is essentially identical — same west-facing horizon, same window timing of 5:45pm to 6:30pm depending on season. Exile typically runs less crowded than Pearl Beach for the sunset itself, which is the trade-off: slightly less established cocktail program, slightly easier seat-grabbing.
For a sunset-only visit (no party), arrive by 5:15pm to claim a beanbag, order a cocktail by 5:30pm, and you'll catch the entire golden hour.
Bintang large bottle is 60,000 IDR — slight premium for the beachfront location. Cocktails run 100,000–160,000 IDR and the cocktail program is honestly quite good. The sunset cocktail menu (a rotating list of three or four signature drinks for 130k IDR) is genuinely worth ordering rather than defaulting to a margarita. Try the Lemongrass Collins or the Hibiscus Sour.
Shots are 50,000 IDR. The bucket option is 350,000 IDR. Wine is available (60k IDR per glass for house, 90k for slightly better) which is rare on Gili T and welcome.
3pm to 5pm: nearly empty, perfect for a quiet drink and a swim. 5pm to 7pm: sunset crowd, beanbags fill, music shifts to chill house. 7pm to 9pm: dinner-and-drinks energy, food orders pick up. 9pm to 11pm: weeknight chill or Saturday warm-up. 11pm to closing: weeknight wind-down or Saturday peak.
The weeknight Exile is one of the best dates spots on the island — quiet, romantic, beach setting, decent food. The Saturday Exile is something completely different — a beach party that reaches 400+ people at peak.
Broader than the main strip bars. Couples on holiday, slightly more luxury-resort spillover (some of the island's better hotels are within walking distance of the west coast), Bali-circuit travelers, and the dive-scene regulars who prefer the west coast over the main strip. Saturday brings everyone — main strip crowd walks over for the night.
Solo travelers do well at Exile. The chill weeknight vibe is low-pressure and the Saturday party is friendly. Solo female travelers report Exile as easier than the main-strip dance bars — the slightly older crowd and beach-setting layout reduces the crowd-pressure feeling.
The west-coast walk back to main accommodation is 15–25 minutes depending on where you're staying. The path along the west coast is well-defined but unlit at night — bring a phone torch. Cidomo horse-cart taxis run along the west coast all night and the standard rate to the main strip is 100,000–150,000 IDR.
For staying near Exile, several west-coast guesthouses and a few mid-tier resorts are within 5 minutes' walk. Worth booking nearby if you commit to a Saturday Exile night and don't want the post-3am hike.
If you want a romantic sunset-and-dinner west-coast evening — any weeknight. If you want a destination Saturday beach party — Saturday is mandatory. If you want a quieter alternative to Pearl Beach for sunset — anytime before 5:30pm.
Skip Exile if you can't manage the walk back, if you want late-night options every night (Saturday is the only true big party), or if you want guaranteed Pearl-Beach-level cocktail polish (Exile is good but Pearl edges it).
