Aston is an Indonesian-managed hotel chain (part of Archipelago International) that operates dozens of three- and four-star properties across Indonesia. Their Gili Trawangan resort opened in 2014 and has been steadily refurbished through the post-earthquake recovery period.

The product is what you would expect from a regional mid-range chain: predictable rooms, a real pool, a real restaurant, and consistent international service standards — a meaningful upgrade over the bungalow-style guesthouses that dominate Gili T.

Three main categories. Superior Rooms are the entry option (900,000–1,200,000 IDR), set in two-storey blocks behind the pool. Deluxe Rooms add a balcony or terrace and slightly more space (1,200,000–1,500,000 IDR). Beachfront Suites face the sea directly with private deck access (1,500,000–1,800,000 IDR).

For couples on a 2–3 night stay, the Deluxe with pool view delivers the best value. For honeymoons or anniversaries the Beachfront Suites are worth the upgrade — sunset from your private deck is the whole reason to book this property.

Gili Trawangan's west coast is residential and quiet. From Aston Sunset: 25 minutes on foot to the main harbour strip, 5 minutes by cidomo (horse cart, 75,000 IDR), or 10 minutes by bicycle on the flat coast road. The boat to Gili T docks at the main harbour on the east side — Aston arranges a 50,000 IDR cidomo transfer for arrivals.

The hotel beach is good for lounging and sunsets but rocky in patches at low tide. For swimming most guests use the pool. The best snorkelling on Gili T is a short bike ride north at Turtle Point.

The rooms themselves are the property's strongest feature for the price bracket. They're properly air-conditioned (a real issue on cheaper Gili T accommodation), have hot showers, modern bathrooms, and reliable in-room safes. Beds are firm but comfortable. Wi-Fi is decent in the rooms and pool area but slows under load.

The pool is the second strong feature — large, free-form, well-maintained, with a swim-up bar that runs daily 10am–6pm. Sun loungers are plentiful and you can use them all day without moving towels.

Food is competent but not memorable. Breakfast is a buffet included in the room rate — eggs cooked to order, fruit, pastries, Indonesian options. Dinner mains run 120,000–250,000 IDR — significantly above village prices for similar quality. Most guests do breakfast at the hotel and eat dinner at the harbour strip.

Service is consistent and friendly. English is spoken by all front-of-house staff. Housekeeping is reliable. The concierge can arrange snorkel trips, dive bookings, and onward boats to Lombok or Bali.

The biggest practical issue is the location's distance from the harbour strip. If you want to wander into beach bars and night-market food stalls every evening, Aston's location adds friction. If you want a calmer base with sunset views and a pool, the location is the appeal.

Skip if you want to be in the middle of the action, if you need consistently fast Wi-Fi for remote work, or if you want a swimmable beach at all tides — Vila Ombak or Pondok Santi do better on those criteria.
