Transport guide · How to get from Senggigi to Senaru Village (Rinjani trailhead)
Senggigi to Senaru village is 80 km and 2 hours by private car via the north coast road — the shortest Rinjani trek approach on Lombok. A private driver costs 350,000–500,000 IDR one-way and most trek operators bundle transfer from Senggigi at no extra cost. Trekking from Senggigi saves 1.5 hours compared to starting from Kuta.

2 hours · Included in trek package
Tip: All premium operators (John's Adventures, Green Rinjani, Rudy Trekker) include Senggigi pickup. Budget operators sometimes charge 200k extra — verify at booking.
2 hours · 350,000–500,000 IDR
Tip: The coast road and inland climb through the Pusuk Pass forest is genuinely scenic — a nice pre-trek warm-up.
Use your trek operator's bundled transfer — it's the default and comes at no extra cost with premium operators. Senggigi is the best Rinjani staging point on Lombok: shorter drive, coast-road scenery, and no need to transit through Kuta's distance penalty.
# Senggigi to Rinjani: The Shortest Trek Approach
Senggigi is closer to Rinjani's main trailhead at Senaru than Kuta is — 80 km vs 130 km — and the drive is shorter, calmer, and more scenic. If you're planning a Rinjani trek and can choose your pre-trek base, Senggigi is the smarter starting point for purely logistical reasons.
The route heads north from Senggigi along the coast road — one of Lombok's prettiest drives — through Mangsit, past Malimbu Hill viewpoint, through Pemenang (the Bangsal harbor town), and then inland on the climb to Senaru village. Total drive time is 2 hours, with the final 30 minutes being the winding forest road up into the Rinjani foothills.
You'll pass through the Pusuk Pass monkey forest on the inland climb — a 10-minute drive through a rainforest where macaques sometimes cross the road. Don't stop to feed them; drivers will tell you to keep windows up.
Three reasons:
1. Distance: 80 km vs 130 km = 1.5 hours saved on the drive
2. Scenery: The coast road is more pleasant than the cross-island highway through Praya and Mataram
3. Pre-trek acclimatization: Senggigi is slightly higher than Kuta (20m vs sea level), and the calmer beach vibe is easier on trek nerves
If your trip includes both Kuta and Senggigi, schedule Rinjani from Senggigi rather than backtracking to Kuta.
Most premium operators (John's Adventures, Green Rinjani, Rudy Trekker) include Senggigi pickup as a default — they have routes from Senggigi that are faster than Kuta pickups. Confirm at booking because a few budget operators charge extra or only cover Mataram pickup points.
Arrive in Senaru by 5pm for your evening briefing, porter meeting, and homestay check-in. Start the climb the next morning rested.
