Transport guide · How to get from Pink Beach (Tangsi Beach) to Kuta Lombok
Pink Beach (Tangsi Beach, southeast Lombok) to Kuta is 75 km and takes 2 hours by car via the Tanjung Luar coastal road and Praya. Private driver costs 400,000-550,000 IDR. Most travelers visit Pink Beach as a Kuta-based day tour and return the same day, so the 'route' is usually the second half of a tour package.
| Method | Time | Cost | Comfort | Frequency | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private driver — direct return | 2 hours | 400,000-550,000 IDR | On demand | Travelers staying overnight at Pink Beach (rare — limited accommodation) | |
| Day-tour return (most common) | Part of full tour | Included in 350,000-500,000 IDR Pink Beach tour from Kuta | Daily | Day-trippers from Kuta | |
| Boat + driver combo | 3-4 hours | 650,000-900,000 IDR | Pre-arranged only | Travelers extending the boat trip rather than direct return |
2 hours · 400,000-550,000 IDR
Tip: Rough road from Pink Beach to Jerowaru (last 12 km is unpaved in places) — drivers charge a premium for this section.
Part of full tour · Included in 350,000-500,000 IDR Pink Beach tour from Kuta
Tip: If you joined a tour from Kuta, return is included. Don't pay separately for transfer back — confirm with operator beforehand.
3-4 hours · 650,000-900,000 IDR
Tip: Avoids the worst unpaved road sections but doubles the cost. Worth it only if you're combining with another snorkeling stop.
If you're visiting Pink Beach on a day tour from Kuta, your return transport is already arranged — confirm with the operator. If you're staying overnight at one of the rare Tangsi Beach homestays, book a private driver the day before for 450,000 IDR. The road from Pink Beach to Jerowaru is rough and remote, so don't attempt it on a scooter unless you're an experienced off-road rider.
# Pink Beach to Kuta Lombok: The Long Road Back
Pink Beach (officially Tangsi Beach) is one of Lombok's most remote attractions — a coral-pink shoreline on the southeastern peninsula, accessible only via a deteriorating road that few drivers willingly tackle without compensation. Returning to Kuta is the second half of what's usually a day-tour experience, but the route deserves understanding because road quality, traffic, and timing all matter.
Pink Beach sits 75 km from Kuta in straight-line distance, but the actual drive involves:
Road conditions on the first 12 km vary dramatically. After heavy rain, sections become muddy and require 4WD. The dry season (June-September) is the only time the route is reliably driveable in a regular sedan.
Pink Beach → Jerowaru (12 km, 35 min)
Unpaved/patchy road through dry coastal scrub. Slow, bumpy, occasional livestock. Drivers consider this the difficult part of the trip.
Jerowaru → Tanjung Luar (8 km, 15 min)
Better road. Tanjung Luar is Lombok's largest fishing port — interesting 5-minute photo stop if your driver is willing.
Tanjung Luar → Praya (35 km, 50 min)
Standard inland highway through Sukamulia and Sakra. Heavy truck traffic during midday.
Praya → Kuta (15 km, 25 min)
Final south-coast bypass road, well-paved.
The vast majority of travelers visit Pink Beach as part of a day tour from Kuta:
If you're on this kind of tour, the return is included. Confirm pickup time and exact drop-off location with your operator before departure.
You can't really "drive back" because:
1. Pink Beach has no rental scooter parking infrastructure
2. The unpaved road is risky on a regular scooter
3. There's no public transport from the beach itself (closest bemo is Jerowaru, 12 km away via the bad road)
4. Cell coverage is poor, complicating Grab requests
Even if you scootered there, returning by scooter is uncomfortable and slow. Most independent travelers regret not joining a tour with included transport.
Recommended departure: 2-3 PM
Avoid 4-6 PM departure — Praya rush hour adds 30-45 minutes, and arriving Kuta after dark on the unfamiliar coast road is unpleasant.
A small handful of homestays exist near Tangsi (Tanjung Bloam Beach Resort is the most established). If you're staying overnight:
| Scenario | Cost |
|----------|------|
| Tour-included return | 0 (in 350,000-500,000 IDR tour price) |
| Standalone driver pickup | 400,000-550,000 IDR |
| Boat + driver combo | 650,000-900,000 IDR |
| Scooter return (own) | 30,000 IDR fuel (high risk) |
Most Pink Beach tours include Tanjung Bloam (white-sand beach 8 km west) on either the outbound or return leg. If your operator doesn't include it, request the addition — it adds 30 minutes and very little cost, and the cliffside views are some of the best in southeast Lombok.
These west-Kuta beaches are not on the return route. Adding either requires backtracking and adds 90+ minutes plus extra driver cost. Visit them on a separate day from Kuta.
