Belongas Bay is 65 km southeast of Kuta Lombok — 90 minutes on mostly paved roads. It's the home of Lombok's best advanced dive sites (Magnet, Shark Point, The Cathedral) and the transfer is usually bundled into an operator's package. Overnight at a Belongas dive camp is the right call; day-tripping means you miss the dawn sites and hit worse visibility.

# Kuta Lombok to Belongas Bay: The Advanced Dive Commitment
Belongas Bay is where serious divers go in Lombok. Unlike the Gili Islands' easy reef dives that work for all levels, Belongas is advanced-diver territory — strong currents, deep drops, big fish encounters, and sites with names like Shark Point, Manta Point, Magnet, and The Cathedral. If you have fewer than 50 logged dives, Belongas probably isn't for you. If you're advanced and looking for the best dive sites in Lombok, this is where you go.
The drive from Kuta is 90 minutes through progressively rural east-Lombok terrain. Unlike Gili diving (where the journey is part of the vacation vibe), the Belongas journey is a functional dive-trip transfer — through farmland and small villages, not scenic coastal views.
Belongas diving doesn't work like Gili diving. There's no shop strip, no walk-up fun-dive booking, no rental gear shelves. The dive operators at Belongas are small outfits running scheduled boats from remote launches. Independent divers can't easily show up and "book a dive for tomorrow" — the logistics don't support it.
What works: book a 2–3 night Belongas package with a dedicated operator (some based in Kuta, some based in Belongas itself). The package typically includes:

Shark Point — as the name suggests, reef sharks (white-tip, black-tip, occasional grey reef) patrol this site reliably. Current can be strong; this is a drift dive experience.
Manta Point — seasonal manta ray aggregation, best October–December. The biggest draw for many Belongas visitors.
The Cathedral — a dramatic underwater topology of swim-throughs and vertical walls with soft coral and large pelagics.
The Magnet — seamount in the middle of the bay where pelagic species congregate. Big fish, strong current, experienced divers only.
These are not beginner dives. A typical Belongas day has 2–3 dives, each with real current and real depth (20–35m). You need good air consumption, good buoyancy, and ideally nitrox certification.
Two main operators dominate Belongas: Dive Zone (based in Kuta, runs trips out) and Belongas Bay Divers (based on-site). Both have good reputations. Kuta-based operators are better for first-time visitors because they handle all logistics including transfers and accommodation bundling. On-site operators are cheaper per-dive but require you to arrange transfer and lodging separately.
