Lombok Airport Guide: Arrivals, SIM Cards, ATMs & Transport from LOP

Lombok International Airport (IATA: LOP, ICAO: WADL), officially Bandara Internasional Zainuddin Abdul Madjid, is located in Praya on the south-central coast of Lombok. Opened in 2011 to replace the old Selaparang Airport in Mataram, it is a modern single-terminal airport that handles both domestic and international flights.

The terminal is organized simply: arrivals on the ground floor, departures upstairs. Everything is under one roof and manageable on foot in minutes. By international standards, this is a small, uncomplicated airport — a welcome contrast to the sprawling chaos of Bali's Ngurah Rai.

### Ground Floor (Arrivals)

After deplaning, you walk through a covered corridor into the terminal. The flow is:

2. Immigration counters — standard passport control booths

3. Baggage claim — a small carousel hall with 2-3 belts

4. Customs — typically a walk-through unless flagged

### Upper Floor (Departures)

Check-in counters, a small food court with Indonesian and fast food options, a prayer room, a few shops selling snacks and souvenirs, and departure gates. There is a small lounge available for business class passengers and priority pass holders.

### Visa on Arrival (VOA)

Most nationalities can obtain a Visa on Arrival at LOP. The VOA is valid for 30 days and costs 500,000 IDR (approximately $35 USD).

How to pay: The VOA counter accepts IDR cash, USD cash, and credit/debit cards (Visa and Mastercard). Having the exact amount in IDR or USD speeds things up.

Extension: The VOA can be extended once for an additional 30 days at any immigration office in Indonesia. The extension costs another 500,000 IDR plus a processing fee. Start the extension process at least 7 working days before your initial 30 days expire. The Mataram immigration office handles extensions for Lombok-based travelers.

Visa-free entry: Citizens of some ASEAN countries and a few others qualify for visa-free entry for 30 days. This cannot be extended — if you want to stay longer, get the VOA instead even if you qualify for visa-free, so you can extend.

• Have your passport (minimum 6 months validity), return or onward ticket confirmation, and accommodation address ready
• The immigration officers may ask where you are staying — a hotel name and city is sufficient

Immediately after exiting customs and entering the arrivals hall, you will see SIM card counters on your right. This is the single most important thing to sort out at the airport — reliable mobile data makes everything else in Lombok easier.

### Recommended: Telkomsel

Telkomsel has the best network coverage across Lombok, including areas where competitors drop to zero signal. This matters because Lombok has significant coverage gaps in the south coast, east coast, and mountainous interior.

Tourist SIM packages at the airport:

• 15 GB / 30 days: approximately 100,000 IDR
• 25 GB / 30 days: approximately 150,000 IDR
• Unlimited (throttled after cap): approximately 200,000 IDR

Several ATMs are located in the arrivals hall, including BCA, BNI, Mandiri, and BRI. For the best exchange rates and highest withdrawal limits:

• BNI: Max withdrawal 2,500,000 IDR per transaction. Reliable machines.

### 3. Grab / Gojek

Both ride-hailing apps work at Lombok airport, but with caveats. Driver availability is inconsistent — you might get a driver in 5 minutes or wait 30 minutes. Prices are typically 20-40% lower than the taxi counter. The pickup point for ride-hailing is at the parking area outside the terminal, a 2-minute walk from arrivals.

### 4. Public Transport

A public damri bus runs from the airport to Mataram's Mandalika bus terminal for approximately 25,000 IDR. Departures are infrequent and the bus makes multiple stops. Only viable if you are headed to Mataram on a tight budget and have no time pressure.

Savings: Grab fares from the airport are typically 20-40% cheaper than the taxi counter. For example, Grab to Kuta Lombok runs about 65,000-90,000 IDR versus 100,000-150,000 IDR at the counter.

Wait times: Highly variable. During busy periods, you might wait 5-10 minutes. During quiet times or late at night, waits of 20-30 minutes are common, and drivers may cancel if they are far away.

Pickup location: Walk out of the terminal through the arrivals exit and head to the parking area. The designated ride-hailing pickup zone is signed. Drivers will call or message you (in Indonesian, usually) to confirm the pickup spot.

Payment: GrabPay balance, OVO, or cash. International credit cards may not work in the Grab app for Indonesian rides. Cash is the reliable fallback.

Arrival time: Arrive 2 hours before domestic flights, 3 hours before international flights. The airport is not large, but check-in queues for budget carriers (Lion Air) can be slow during peak times.

Airport tax: Included in your ticket price — no separate payment needed.

Food and drink: The small food court upstairs has Indonesian food stalls (nasi goreng, bakso, soto) at 25,000-50,000 IDR, plus a few chain outlets. Eat before security — options after security are limited to a couple of small kiosks.

Souvenirs: The departure area has a few shops selling Lombok crafts, coffee, and snacks. Prices are airport-level (inflated 30-50% versus town prices). If you want souvenirs, buy them in Mataram or Kuta Lombok before heading to the airport.

Getting to the airport: Allow extra time beyond the drive time listed above. Lombok's roads can have unexpected delays from ceremonies, market days, or construction. From Kuta Lombok, 45 minutes is safe. From Senggigi, allow 2 hours. From Bangsal/Gili area, allow 2.5-3 hours including the boat crossing.
