Gili Trawangan — universally known as Gili T — is the largest and most developed of the three Gili Islands. With a circumference of about seven kilometers, it is small enough to walk around in two hours but large enough to offer distinct neighborhoods with different characters.

The island is car-free and motorbike-free. Transport is by bicycle, horse cart (cidomo), or walking. This creates a uniquely peaceful atmosphere that contrasts with the lively nightlife scene. Gili T manages to be both a party destination and a tropical paradise, depending on which side of the island you choose.

Accommodation ranges from bamboo-hut dorms to luxury villa compounds. The island has roughly 200 properties, concentrated along the south and west coasts with quieter options scattered around the north and east. Quality has improved significantly since the 2018 earthquake reconstruction, with many properties rebuilt to higher standards.

The north side of Gili T has the fewest properties and the most seclusion. This is where travelers who want island tranquility without the social scene choose to stay. Properties are spread out, beaches are often empty, and the only sounds are waves and birdsong.
