June at Tanjung Bloam delivers building surf with still-quiet beach time — the south-east bay's transition to reliable dry-season conditions.
June at Tanjung Bloam (-8.9089, 116.5421) sees the eastern reef surf build to 4-6ft as SW swells lock in for the season. Central and western bay swimming remains calm and clear. Visitor numbers rise to 30-70 daily but the remoteness from Kuta keeps it dramatically quieter than other south-coast beaches. Sekaroh-area homestays start filling on weekends. The dry-season locks in fully.
# Tanjung Bloam in June: Surf Builds, Beach Stays Quiet
June at Tanjung Bloam continues May's excellent conditions but with subtle dry-season shifts. The first SW swells of May give way to reliable 4-6ft pulses at the eastern reef. Trade winds settle into their reliable peak-season pattern. The Sekaroh-area access road runs dustier as the wet-season moisture finishes evaporating. And visitor numbers slowly rise as Australian school holidays bring early-peak day-trippers.
The bay itself remains the same — same 1.2km crescent of sand, same calm central and western sections, same eastern reef setup. June is mostly about the surf properly switching on while the swim and snorkel offerings remain unchanged.
Same:
Different:
Sea state: bay still calm in central and western sections. Eastern reef catches reliable SW swells at 4-6ft size. The bay's geometry — protected by the eastern headland — means surf at the reef and calm swimming in the bay are simultaneously available.
Visibility: 15m+ underwater at the eastern reef. Best snorkeling visibility of the year improving from May.
Wind: easterly to south-easterly trade winds at 10-15 knots. Comfortable for beach time but starting to require hat security on the headlands.
Temperature: 29°C high, 22°C low. Drier than May with only 3 rainy days. Morning beach time most comfortable.
June is when the eastern reef break properly switches on. The reef sits at the bay's eastern edge where it transitions to the rocky headland. Wave characteristics:
The reef is intermediate-friendly at June sizes. It becomes more challenging on bigger July-August pulses. Reef booties recommended — the takeoff zone has occasional rock sections.
Compared to better-known south-coast surf:
Tanjung Bloam sits at -8.9089, 116.5421. Drive times:
Access road through Jerowaru and Sekaroh remains the same. June dust is starting but still manageable.
For surfers and serious visitors in June, basing in Sekaroh village makes more sense than May. The early-start surfing pattern combined with the long drive from Kuta makes the overnight stay genuinely valuable.
Sekaroh village homestays in June: 180,000-350,000 IDR/night for basic rooms with shared facilities. Walk-in bookings work weekdays; book 2-5 days ahead for weekends.
Basic Tangsi homestays: 100,000-250,000 IDR/night, slightly closer to Pink Beach.
Jerowaru area accommodation: 200,000-450,000 IDR/night, more developed but 30-minute morning drive to Tanjung Bloam.
The overnight pattern:
Beach walking: same 1.2km crescent, slightly more visitors in central section.
Swimming: central and western sections still calm and clear, perfect for all abilities.
Surfing: now properly working at 4-6ft, intermediate-plus surfers welcome. See above section.
Snorkeling: eastern point reef visibility 15m+, best of the year for the bay.
Combined south-east loop: still the smart day strategy, especially with overnight stay.
Sunrise photography: same eastern headland, June sunrise 5:50am.
Cliff fishing: Tanjung Ringgit guides also offer combination tours including Tanjung Bloam beach time. 250,000-450,000 IDR per person for 5-6 hour combination day.
A self-drive June day-trip from Kuta hitting all three sites runs 280,000-500,000 IDR per person all-in.
Photography opportunities largely unchanged from May. Slight differences:
June visitor pattern at Tanjung Bloam:
Total daily: 30-70 typical, weekends 60-100, peak weekend afternoons 100-130.
Still very quiet by Lombok beach standards. Tanjung Aan in June sees 400-700/day; Selong Belanak 800-1,500/day.
July is full peak with surf at maximum (6-8ft at the eastern reef), visitor counts rising to 50-100/day, and the Sekaroh access road at maximum dust. October is the closing-act shoulder.
June is the month for surf-and-swim visitors who want the eastern reef working properly while the rest of the bay stays quiet enough for genuine peace.
June dawn surf sessions at the eastern reef are excellent. SW swells lock in by mid-month producing reliable 4-6ft surf with east-southeast trade winds blowing offshore at the eastern reef position. Get there by sunrise (5:50am), surf until 9am, then move to the central beach for swimming and snorkeling through midday. The combined surf-swim-snorkel day at Tanjung Bloam is one of Lombok's best. Sekaroh village overnight (150,000-300,000 IDR/night basic homestay) makes the early start practical.
