April is one of Sekotong's best months — dry weather, reliable boats, low crowds, shoulder pricing. Strong value for snorkel-focused trips.
Sekotong in April is the start of dry season — 130mm rainfall across 10 rainy days, reliable Secret Gili boat trips, calm sea conditions, and shoulder-season pricing. Crowds remain low. April delivers most of the Sekotong experience without the July-August premium. One of the best value months of the year.
# Sekotong in April: Dry Season Begins
April is when Sekotong becomes the destination it's marketed as. Rainfall drops sharply to 130mm across just 10 rainy days. The westerly swells that plagued January-March give way to calm seas. Boat trips to the Secret Gilis run daily and reliably. The weather and the activity calendar finally align.
Highs of 31°C and lows of 24°C are similar to March, but the rainfall and humidity tell the real story. Humidity eases to 82% — noticeably more comfortable. Most days are sunny with occasional brief afternoon showers rather than full storms. The sea remains warm and welcoming.
Westerly swells fade through April. By mid-month, sea conditions are reliably calm, with only occasional moderate days. Boat operators at Tawun beach run regular schedules rather than reading the day-of weather. This consistency is what makes April so different from March.
Eid al-Fitr fell on March 19, 2026, with the holiday week extending into the first days of April. Indonesian domestic tourism peaks across the country during this period. Sekotong sees a measurable bump at the major resorts and at the Tawun boat launch through the first week of April.
After about April 7, the Eid wave subsides and Sekotong returns to its quiet baseline. International visitors trickle in throughout the month — divers heading to Cocotinos and Sundancer, snorkel-focused couples, a few European families on early holidays.
Secret Gili day trips are the headline. With sea conditions reliable, you can plan the full four-island circuit — Nanggu (best beach), Sudak (best coral), Kedis (smallest and quietest), Tangkong (largest with simple warung lunch). Visibility on the reefs is improving as runoff decreases through the month, reaching dry-season clarity by late April.
Pearl farm visits become more substantive in April. Several farms run more elaborate tours during the post-Ramadan period, including hands-on workshops where you can seed an oyster (results take months but the experience is worthwhile). Showrooms attached to farms offer better selection than the high season.
Mekaki sunset viewpoint delivers the postcard sunset reliably in April. Drive up around 5pm, settle in with snacks, and watch the sun drop into the Java Sea. Cell signal is patchy at the viewpoint — bring downloaded music.
Cycling through the peninsula opens up. Roads dry quickly, traffic is light, and the coastal route from Tawun south offers great views. Resort bike rentals are basic; bring your own padded shorts if you plan a long ride.
Beach hopping along the 30km Sekotong coastline reveals dozens of small bays, most of them empty. Drive south from Sekotong main beach and stop wherever a track leads to the water — many of the best beaches have no signage.
April moves Sekotong from low-season to shoulder pricing — typically 15-25% discount versus July-August peak. Resorts remain easy to book without reservations except over Eid weekend. Budget guesthouses are open and well-priced.
The peninsula stays quiet by global standards. Even at peak April activity, you'll see only a handful of other foreign visitors at Tawun beach, and the offshore islands rarely have more than 10-15 visitors at any one. This is the appeal — Sekotong is a working antidote to Gili Trawangan crowds.
Underwater visibility builds through April as wet-season runoff clears. By late month, you can expect 15-20m visibility on the Secret Gili reefs. The marine life — reef fish, occasional turtles, healthy coral — is at its best.
Cocotinos runs a dive operation if you're certified, with house reef access and boat trips to nearby sites. PADI courses also operate. Snorkellers do well from shore at Tawun, and even better from the boats.
Most things don't require advance booking in April. Resorts have availability except over Eid weekend. Boat trips can be arranged the night before. Pearl farm tours similarly book day-of.
The exception is Cocotinos and Sundancer's busiest weekend dates around early April — book 4-6 weeks ahead if you specifically want one of these. Otherwise, April flexibility is part of the appeal.
April is one of Sekotong's strongest months. You get dry-season conditions without peak-season pricing or crowds. The Secret Gili experience is at full capacity. Pearl farms, sunset viewpoints, and cycling all deliver. The trip works as either a relaxation hideaway or a snorkel-focused adventure.
If you can travel in April rather than July-August, do it. The savings on accommodation, the absence of crowds at the offshore islands, and the same quality of weather and water make April excellent value. Mid-to-late April is even better than the first week, after Eid traffic clears.
For the offshore island experience specifically, April through October is the broad season. April delivers it cheaper and quieter than the peak.
April is the sweet spot — dry weather has arrived but European summer crowds haven't. Book a private boat charter for a multi-island day; the cost split among 4-6 people is comparable to a guided group, and you control the pace. Tawun boatmen quote 700,000-900,000 IDR for a full day, including snorkel gear.
