Weather doesn't change — it's still rainy season, you'll still get afternoon storms, visibility is still reduced. But the island buzzes with holiday energy, making the weather feel like a minor inconvenience rather than the main story.

For travelers specifically wanting a party NYE in a tropical setting, Gili Trawangan is one of the best choices in Indonesia. Multiple beach clubs run all-night parties with fireworks. The island runs hot from about 7pm through sunrise on January 1. You pay 3–5x normal prices for the experience but the energy is genuinely memorable.
The one thing travelers miss about December: the 10-day window of Dec 1–10 is the cheapest week of the entire year on Gili T. Rainy season is here, holidays haven't arrived, and accommodations are desperate for guests. If you want maximum budget travel and can tolerate rain, early December is the answer.
