April is the sweet spot: dry season conditions with sub-peak pricing. The month to pick if you want excellent weather without crowd pressure.
April is when Gili Trawangan's dry season officially begins. Temperatures stay warm (28–32°C), rain drops to occasional brief showers, sea visibility hits 20–25 meters, and accommodation prices rise gently from low-season rates but haven't hit peak. For quality-to-price ratio, April is the smart traveler's pick.
# Gili Trawangan in April: Dry Season Arrives
April marks the official start of Lombok's dry season, and Gili Trawangan transforms from rainy-season sleepy to full dry-season mode. The change is dramatic: beach restaurants extend hours, dive shops run full schedules, and the island's rhythm picks up to what visitors expect Gili T to feel like.
Rain drops from March's 180mm to April's 110mm — mostly concentrated in brief showers rather than all-afternoon storms. You'll likely see rain 1–2 days of a week-long April trip, as opposed to 4–5 days in a January trip. Temperatures tick up slightly. Humidity drops from 85% to 75%, which sounds minor but feels significantly more comfortable.
The sea responds too. Mornings and afternoons both run calm, boat transfers are smoother, and snorkel visibility hits the 20–25 meter range. Divers consider April–June and September–October as the best viz months of the year.
The July-August peak is what everyone aims for but April has genuine advantages:
The downside of April is that Easter (if it falls in April) brings a week-long mini-peak with European school holidays. Outside that week, conditions are near-optimal.
A perfect April day on Gili T: 6:30am sunrise, dawn run or walk, 7:30am breakfast, 8am boat tour or morning dive, noon beach or pool, 1pm lunch, afternoon nap or reading, 4pm sunset walk, 6:30pm sunset drinks, 8pm dinner. This is the schedule Gili T was built for.
April 15–30 is the optimal Gili T window. Dry season is established, visibility is at its best of the year (before summer plankton), school-holiday crowds haven't arrived, and accommodation rates are 20% below peak. Most Gili regulars recommend this specific window over any other time.
