Inland central Gili Trawangan, 7-minute walk from main strip
★ 4.5(234 reviews)
Sun & Fire is Gili Trawangan's main dedicated yoga studio, with three daily drop-in classes (150–180k IDR) including a 10am class explicitly designed for travelers recovering from the previous night. Beautiful inland shala away from the party strip, walking distance from most accommodation.
# Sun & Fire Yoga: Gili Trawangan's Main Studio
Gili Trawangan is the party island. That's the reputation, and it's largely accurate — beachfront bars, pub crawls, mushroom shakes, sunset DJs. What people don't always realise is that Trawangan also has a substantial daytime wellness scene serving the half of visitors who aren't actually there to party. Sun & Fire is the centerpiece of that wellness scene.
Inland location in Trawangan's central village, about 7 minutes walk from the main beachfront strip. Bamboo construction, two-story building with the shala upstairs and a small reception/café space downstairs. Capacity 22 mats. Fans for cooling (no air-con). The inland position means you're far enough from the beach bars that you won't hear them during class — a real advantage over beachfront studios on Trawangan.
Mats and full prop set provided (blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets). The space is well-maintained — equipment is replaced when worn rather than left tatty. Cubbies, water cooler, toilets, simple changing area.
Three daily classes:
The 10am class is genuinely useful in Trawangan's context. Most travelers here had a late night, and a 10am gentle flow is exactly the right intervention — not so early it's painful, not so intense it punishes you, but enough movement to undo the previous night.
Saturday adds hot yoga at 11am (additional 60-minute slot). It's hot — the bamboo shala has fans but no air-con, so 90% humidity plus added heaters creates a brutal environment. People love it or hate it. Try it once before committing.
This is the most expensive Gili yoga — Trawangan pricing in general runs 20–30% above Gili Air. Card and cash both accepted (no surcharge).
Sun & Fire screens teachers more rigorously than the average Gili studio. Most have 500-hour or higher certifications, multiple years of teaching experience, and clear lineage. The studio publishes the current teacher rotation on Instagram with bios — useful for screening before booking. Style runs contemporary vinyasa with strong alignment cues.
The downstairs café serves breakfast (eggs, granola bowls, juices) and basic lunch. It's convenient rather than destination-worthy — fine for a post-class smoothie or light breakfast, not where you'd plan dinner. Mains 60–120k IDR.
If you're choosing which Gili island to base yourself on for yoga:
For yoga-focused trips, Gili Air wins. For travelers who want both nightlife and daily yoga, Trawangan with Sun & Fire is the only sensible combination.
Book Sun & Fire if you're staying on Gili Trawangan and want quality daily yoga. Book if you'll appreciate the 10am hangover-friendly class. Book if you want the inland quiet — the studio is far enough from the party strip to feel like a different island.
Skip Sun & Fire if you're choosing between Gili islands purely for yoga (Gili Air offers more options at lower prices), if you want hot yoga as a primary practice (the bamboo shala isn't designed for it well), or if you're avoiding party-island energy entirely (even the inland studio has the broader Trawangan context around it).
