Includes free hotel transfer in Bali. Better than budget operators on safety, cheaper than premium Blue Water Express.
# Scoot Fast Cruise: Mid-Tier Bali-Gili Fast Boat
Scoot Fast Cruise has been operating the Bali-Gili-Lombok crossing for over two decades. It sits in the middle of the fast boat market: more polished than budget operators, less premium than Blue Water Express, with prices between the two. For most travelers, this is the practical sweet spot.
The Bali-Gili fast boat market roughly breaks into three tiers:
Premium (Blue Water Express): Newer boats, professional crew, best safety equipment, 30-50% above mid-tier pricing.
Mid-tier (Scoot, Eka Jaya, Mahi Mahi): Established operators with reasonable track records, mixed boat ages, generally adequate safety, mid-range pricing.
Budget (various smaller operators): Cheapest tickets, oldest boats, inconsistent service, occasional safety concerns. Generally not recommended.
Scoot is in the middle tier. The boats are older than Blue Water but maintained reasonably well. The crew is professional in a workmanlike way (not the polished safety-briefing routine of premium). Crossings are sometimes rough but the boats handle moderate sea state without drama.
From Padang Bai (East Bali):
Return from Gili Trawangan:
Two daily departures each direction. Reliable in dry season; subject to weather cancellations in wet season like all operators.
One-way (per adult):
Return (purchased together, modest discount):
Children: Half price for ages 2-12, free under 2.
Includes: Free Bali hotel transfer (south Bali pickup zones), 1 large suitcase + carry-on, water and light snack on board.
Free transfer from south Bali zones (Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Nusa Dua). Pickup is 2-3 hours before departure to allow for the 1.5-hour drive to Padang Bai plus multiple hotel stops in the shared minivan.
For a 9:30am boat: pickup at 6:30-7:00am.
If you prefer private transfer, take your own taxi to Padang Bai (200-400k IDR) and skip the hotel transfer.
The boats are aluminum-hull catamaran-style with seating in 2 main areas: indoor cabin (sometimes air-conditioned, sometimes just shaded) and open upper deck.
The upper deck is more pleasant in good weather and recommended in case of issues (closer to safety equipment, less claustrophobic).
In moderate sea state (1-1.5m swell), the crossing is bumpy but not alarming. In rough state (2m+ swell), the boats slow significantly and the ride becomes uncomfortable. In genuinely rough conditions, the operator will cancel — but their threshold is higher than Blue Water Express.
Scoot has had a few incidents over the years (as has every Bali fast boat operator). The track record is reasonable but not spotless. Recommendations for any Scoot crossing:
Scoot is one of the few operators that runs all the way to Senggigi (Lombok) in addition to the Gili Islands. This is useful if your final destination is the Senggigi strip — you skip the Bangsal Harbor → land transfer → Senggigi drive logistics.
The Senggigi extension adds 30 minutes to the crossing time but saves significant land transfer time on the Lombok side.
Online at scootcruise.com (somewhat dated interface but functional) or via WhatsApp. Email confirmation immediately, e-ticket for harbor check-in.
Third-party platforms (Klook, GetYourGuide, BookAway) often sell Scoot tickets with English-language support that's easier than direct customer service.
Travelers wanting an established mid-tier operator at fair pricing, anyone needing the included Bali hotel transfer, dry-season visitors with some flexibility, and those continuing to Senggigi who appreciate the through-service. Skip if you specifically want the premium experience (book Blue Water) or if you're traveling in deep wet season without buffer days.
