Gili Meno west coast (sunset side)
★ 4.4(480 reviews)
Mahamaya is the only proper full-service restaurant on Gili Meno (the quietest Gili), attached to Mahamaya Boutique Resort on the west sunset coast. Mediterranean-Indonesian fusion menu, mid-to-upper pricing 130–280k IDR per main, beachfront sunset positioning. Daily 7am–10:30pm. Essential booking due to limited Meno dining options.
# Mahamaya Restaurant Gili Meno: Dinner on the Quietest Gili
Gili Meno is the smallest, quietest, and least developed of the three Gilis — which is the entire point of going there. The flip side is that the island has only a handful of proper restaurants, and almost no fine-dining options. Mahamaya, attached to the boutique resort of the same name, is the closest thing Meno has to a destination dinner — beachfront sunset, Mediterranean-Indonesian fusion menu, and a kitchen with the operational discipline of a mid-range Bali resort.
Three meal periods, each open to non-guests:
Breakfast (7–10:30am): A la carte (no buffet — a deliberate choice). Western options (eggs benedict, full breakfast, pancakes), Indonesian options (nasi goreng, mie goreng, bubur ayam), continental (yogurt-granola, fresh fruit, pastries). 90–160k.
Lunch (12–3pm): Lighter menu — sandwiches, salads, pasta, Indonesian classics, fresh fish. 110–220k.
Dinner (6–10:30pm): Full menu with daily seafood specials, Mediterranean mains, Indonesian, vegetarian, and the wine-list-required dishes. 130–280k.
Pan-seared local snapper (240,000 IDR): Whole fish from local fishermen, skin crisp, served with seasonal vegetables and a lemon-caper-butter sauce. The signature dinner dish.
Beef rendang (180,000 IDR): Slow-cooked, properly reduced. The Indonesian standard, done well.
Spaghetti vongole (170,000 IDR): Fresh clams, garlic, white wine, parsley. Decent Italian, not Biba-level but respectable.
Tuna tartare (160,000 IDR): Sashimi-grade yellowfin (when supply allows), citrus-soy, avocado. Worth ordering when available — supply on Meno is more variable than Gili T.
Vegetarian curry (140,000 IDR): Coconut-based curry with seasonal vegetables, tofu or tempeh, jasmine rice. Decent vegetarian option.
Tropical fruit pavlova (85,000 IDR): Crisp meringue, whipped cream, mango, passionfruit, dragon fruit. The dessert.
Cocktails (110–170,000 IDR): Standard cocktail program, properly made. Mojito 115k, margarita 130k, espresso martini 150k. Sunset cocktails are a draw.
Wine glass (130–180,000 IDR): Short list with Italian, French, Australian options. Bottle prices 700k–1.6M.
Bintang large (65,000 IDR).
Mahamaya occupies a prime stretch of Gili Meno's west coast with full sunset views toward Gili Trawangan and Bali beyond. The dining area is split between an open-air pavilion under bamboo roof, beachfront tables on a wooden deck, and pool-side seating during day.
The atmosphere is "boutique resort restaurant" — relaxed but composed. Linens, proper glassware, table service, ceiling fans (no air-con). At sunset (5:45–6:30pm), it's one of the most genuinely magical dinner spots on the Gilis, in part because Meno's quieter island vibe means there's none of the bar-music or party energy of Gili T.
Sunset on Meno is the island's defining feature. Mahamaya's beachfront tables align directly with the sun's setting position from June through September; from December through March the sun shifts slightly south but stays in view. Cocktails arrive at 5:30pm, sunset peaks 5:45–6:15pm depending on season, dinner courses begin 6:15–6:30pm.
For the sunset table, book ahead and request specifically. Walk-ins after 5:30pm in peak season usually don't get sunset positions.
Vegetarian: Multiple options across the menu — pasta (no seafood), curries, salads, vegetable Indonesian dishes.
Vegan: Available with modification — vegan curries, vegan pasta (no parmesan, no butter), dairy-free dessert options. Inform staff at booking.
Gluten-free: Some options, gluten-free pasta available for an additional 30k.
Halal: Most dishes halal by default. Pork is not on the menu (Meno is more conservative than Gili T). Wine and certain sauces require staff confirmation.
Kids menu: Limited — pasta, chicken with rice, fries.
Meno has very limited dining options — a handful of beach warungs, two or three small cafes, and Mahamaya. In peak season (July–August, Christmas–New Year), Mahamaya books out 1–2 weeks ahead for dinner. Even shoulder season requires 2–3 days notice for sunset tables.
WhatsApp +62 819 9989 9999 to book. Specify number of guests, time, sunset table preference, and any dietary requirements.
Power: Meno's grid is the least reliable of the three Gilis. PLN cuts 3–5 times per week, often longer than on Air or T. Mahamaya runs a hotel-grade generator that bridges within 10 seconds; the kitchen continues, the wine fridge bridges, the lights flicker briefly. Generator audible from back tables during extended outages.
Water: Mahamaya operates its own water filtration. The bathroom facilities are above Meno average. Water shortages happen island-wide in late dry season (October) but the resort manages reserves.
Mosquitoes: Meno has more standing fresh water than the other Gilis (the island has a saltwater lake), so mosquitoes are noticeably worse. Coils, mister system, and repellent at the bar. November–March is worst — bring DEET if you react badly.
WiFi: Available, ~30–50 Mbps. Slower than Gili T or Air due to Meno's smaller infrastructure.
Cards: Visa and Mastercard accepted with no surcharge.
Anyone staying on Gili Meno who wants a proper dinner (you have very few alternatives). Couples on a quiet honeymoon wanting a special-occasion dinner without the Gili T crowds. Travelers day-tripping to Meno who want to combine snorkeling with a sunset dinner before the last boat back.
Skip Mahamaya if you're on a strict budget (eat at the smaller warungs near the harbour for a quarter the price), if you want a casual barefoot dinner (Mahamaya is more polished), or if you're traveling with very young children (the resort restaurant atmosphere is calm but not kid-focused).
