Gili Trawangan inland (rooftop on central island)
★ 4.6(720 reviews)
Regina is Gili Trawangan's highest rooftop bar with 360-degree views including a clean sightline to Mount Rinjani at sunset. It runs as a sunset-cocktail-and-pizza venue rather than a party bar — open from 4pm with last service at 11pm. Cocktails are 100,000–160,000 IDR and the Rinjani view at clear-sky sunset is the single best from any bar in Lombok.
# Regina Rooftop: The Best View on Gili Trawangan
Gili Trawangan is a flat, low-lying island. The highest natural elevation is maybe 30 meters on the central hill, and the developed areas are essentially at sea level. This means most bars share roughly the same horizon — beachfront, looking out at water. Regina is the exception. It's a multi-story rooftop bar in the central part of the island, three stories up, and from the top deck you can see in every direction including a clean sightline to Mount Rinjani on Lombok's main island.
On a clear-sky sunset day this is the single best view from any bar in Lombok.
The rooftop sits high enough to clear the surrounding buildings and the coconut palms. Looking west, you see the standard Gili sunset over open ocean toward Bali. Looking east, you see across Gili Trawangan to the channel separating it from mainland Lombok and beyond that, Mount Rinjani's 3,726-meter cone rising from the Lombok plain.
Rinjani is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia and on a clear day from Regina the silhouette is striking. As the sun sets in the west, the eastern sky picks up an alpenglow that paints Rinjani in pink and purple for 15 minutes. This is the bar's killer feature.
The catch is cloud cover. Rinjani has its own weather system and is often shrouded — particularly in the wet season (November to March). On overcast days you get the western sunset but not the volcano. Check the forecast before committing your one Gili T sunset to Regina; on clear-day forecasts it's the best choice on the island.
Regina runs an Italian wood-fired pizza kitchen and the pizzas are good — properly thin Neapolitan-style crust, San Marzano tomato base, decent mozzarella, fresh basil, occasional weekly specials. Pizzas run 110,000–180,000 IDR. Best picks: Margherita (110k, the test of any pizza kitchen — it passes), Quattro Formaggi (160k), Diavola with spicy sausage (170k).
A short pasta menu (140k–180k) and a couple of antipasti options round it out. This is the only bar on Gili T where you can order a serious pizza and pair it with sunset views — the food is genuinely a reason to come, not an afterthought.
Cocktails run 100,000–160,000 IDR. Italian-influenced menu — Aperol Spritz (100k), Negroni (130k), Hugo Spritz (110k), house Sgroppino (130k). Wine list is the strongest on the island with a small but genuine selection of Italian whites, a couple of reds, and Prosecco by the glass (90k). House Bintang is 55,000 IDR.
The cocktail program is solid — not Casa Vintage levels of craft mixology but well above the beach bar standard. Order Italian-style if you want the bar's strength.
Quieter than any beach sunset bar. The rooftop holds maybe 60 people at capacity and rarely feels packed. Conversation level is normal — no dance music, no drunk shouting. The crowd skews older (late 20s to 50s), more couples and small groups, fewer big party crews.
Wind picks up on the rooftop, which is generally pleasant (cooling) but in the dry season (April to October) the evening wind can be strong enough that you want a light layer.
The bar is in the inland central area of Gili Trawangan, a 5–10 minute walk from main strip accommodation. Look for the multi-story building and the discreet rooftop signage. Stairs are the only access — three flights, no elevator. Not great for mobility issues.
The bar closes at 11pm. This is intentional — Regina is a sunset-and-dinner venue, not a late-night spot. After 11pm you can walk down to the main strip for the party-night circuit if you want.
If you want the best view on Gili T — book a sunset table on a clear-day forecast. If you want a sit-down dinner with a view — the pizzas justify it. If you want a quieter sunset alternative to Pearl Beach or Exile — Regina works perfectly.
Skip Regina if you want late-night options (11pm close), if you can't manage stairs, if the weather is overcast (you lose the killer Rinjani view), or if you want energy and a big crowd.
