Gili Air east coast (near main harbor)
★ 4.5(380 reviews)
Gili Lumbung is a small, thoughtfully-designed cocktail bar on Gili Air's east coast, built into a traditional Sasak thatched-roof lumbung structure. It runs as a sit-down cocktail venue rather than a sunset bar — open from 5pm to midnight with a focus on craft cocktails. Drinks are 110,000–170,000 IDR and the bar suits couples and groups looking for a quieter evening drink.
# Gili Lumbung Cocktail Bar: Gili Air's Quiet Cocktail Spot
Most of Gili Air's drinking happens on the west coast at sunset, and most of it ends by 9pm. Gili Lumbung exists for the hours after that — when you've watched your sunset, eaten dinner, and want one more proper cocktail in a setting that isn't a beanbag on the sand. It's small, well-designed, and the only bar on Gili Air with a serious cocktail program.
The bar is built into a traditional Sasak lumbung — a thatched-roof structure originally used for rice storage and now repurposed across Lombok as the basis for hospitality architecture. The thatched roof, woven bamboo walls, and open sides give the space genuine character that you don't find in the typical concrete-and-tile beach bar.
The location is on Gili Air's east coast, close to the main harbor area but tucked back from the busy ferry-arrival path. Indoor-outdoor layout, low lighting, slow ceiling fans, the sound of waves at the back of every conversation. Capacity is around 25 people seated, slightly more standing.
The menu is short and intentional — about 8 signature cocktails plus the standard classics on request. House-made syrups (lemongrass, kaffir lime, hibiscus, palm sugar), fresh local fruit (pineapple, watermelon, dragon fruit, passion fruit pulp pressed in-house), and a respectable spirit selection backing it all up.
Signature picks: the Gili Smoke (smoked mezcal, fresh pineapple, lime, palm sugar — 160k IDR), the Lumbung Spritz (Aperol, prosecco, fresh kaffir lime — 130k IDR), the Lombok 75 (gin, lemongrass syrup, lime, prosecco — 150k IDR), and the Black Sand Old Fashioned (rum, palm sugar, smoked salt — 140k IDR).
Classics on request — Old Fashioned, Negroni, Manhattan, Aviation, Last Word — all run 130k IDR with the bartender choosing the spirit unless you specify.
This is the only cocktail program on Gili Air that approaches the quality of Casa Vintage on Gili Trawangan. If craft cocktails matter to you and you're staying on Gili Air, this is the answer.
Beer selection is minimal — Bintang large bottle (50k) and the occasional craft Bali beer. Don't come for beer; this is a cocktail bar.
Wine is available with a small but considered list — house Italian white (60k per glass), Argentinian Malbec (75k), Prosecco (90k). Better than the average beach bar wine offering.
Small plates designed to pair with cocktails: charcuterie selection (140k), local cheese plate (130k), tuna tartare with kaffir lime (140k), grilled tiger prawns (160k), spiced cashews and olives (50k). Quality is high. This is snack-pairing food, not dinner — eat dinner elsewhere on the island and come for cocktails.
Couples dominate. The bar suits date nights, anniversary trips, honeymoons, and the slightly older Gili Air demographic. You'll find some wellness-retreat guests from the inland yoga centers stopping in for one drink, occasional Bali-circuit travelers who heard about the place, and dive professionals on a date night.
Median age is older than most Gili bars — late 20s to 50s — and the conversation level matches. No music loud enough to interrupt; the ambient soundtrack is acoustic and lounge.
Solo travelers do well at the bar counter, where the bartenders are conversational. Solo female travelers report Lumbung as comfortable — quiet, attentive staff, low-pressure environment.
Reservations recommended for Friday and Saturday nights via WhatsApp — the small space fills fast. For weeknights walk-in works. The bar accepts cards (one of the few on Gili Air with a reliable terminal).
The walk back to most Gili Air accommodation is 5–15 minutes along east-coast and inland paths, generally well-populated and safe until midnight when the bar closes.
If craft cocktails matter to you and you're staying on Gili Air — this is the answer. If you're on a date night and want a setting more sophisticated than the sand-floor beach bars. If you want the latest-closing reliable Gili Air option (midnight). If you appreciate Sasak architecture as part of a drink experience.
Skip Lumbung if you want sunset views (east coast, no sunset), if you want cheap beer (Bintang 50k is the only beer), if you want energy and a crowd (this is a quiet bar), or if cocktail prices above 130k IDR break your budget.
