Gili Meno (east side, near main jetty)
★ 4.8(419 reviews)
Divine Divers is the only full-service PADI dive shop on Gili Meno, the quietest of the three Gili Islands. They run a small boat and a deliberately small daily intake, with diving access to the Meno Wall, the underwater Nest sculptures, and Bounty Wreck. Best for divers who want serious diving paired with the calm, almost-empty atmosphere of Gili Meno after dark.
# Divine Divers Gili Meno: The Honest Review
Divine Divers is the only proper PADI dive operation on Gili Meno, the smallest and quietest of the three Gili Islands. If the Trawangan party scene sounds exhausting and Gili Air's middle-ground feels too busy, Meno-based diving with Divine Divers is the answer to "where can I dive with my mornings genuinely undisturbed?"
Divine Divers opened in 2009 and has remained the only serious PADI shop on Gili Meno through the island's gradual development. The owners are a German-Indonesian couple, both still actively involved in daily operations. The shop holds PADI 5-star Resort status with a small core team — typically 5 staff including instructors, divemasters, and a boat captain.
The Meno location shapes everything about the operation. The island has perhaps 800 permanent residents and a handful of bungalow-style accommodations. There are no clubs, no late-night beach bars, and walking the perimeter of the island takes about 90 minutes. This affects the kind of diver who books Divine Divers — and the experience that follows.
PADI Open Water at Divine Divers runs over 3 days with the standard 5 dives. Group sizes typically run 3–4 students per instructor — comfortably small. The pacing is unhurried, partly because the shop runs at lower volume than Trawangan-side operations and partly because the Meno atmosphere doesn't encourage rushing.
Advanced Open Water is similarly well-paced. The wreck adventure dive uses Bounty Wreck (5 minutes by boat), the underwater naturalist dive can incorporate the Nest sculptures, and the deep dive typically goes to Hans Reef on the Trawangan-Meno channel.
The shop doesn't offer Instructor Development or technical courses. If you're aiming for those, book at Trawangan instead. For recreational certifications through Divemaster, Divine Divers handles them well.
The Nest is an underwater installation by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor — a circular formation of 48 life-size human figures arranged in a giant ring on the seabed at 4–6 metres depth, designed to encourage coral colonization. It sits a 5-minute boat ride from the shop and is one of the most photographed dive sites in the Gili Islands.
For underwater photographers, the Nest is genuinely worth the trip to Gili Meno specifically. Visibility is usually excellent, the depth is shallow enough for new divers, and the figures provide compelling foreground for wide-angle photography. Divine Divers includes the Nest as a standard fun dive site.
One custom dive boat with hard top and proper kit-up benches. Two departures daily at 8:30am and 1:30pm. Site rotation covers Meno Wall, Turtle Heaven, Bounty Wreck, the Nest, Hans Reef, and occasional trips to Air Wall and the better Trawangan-side sites when conditions favour.
Boat capacity is 8 max with typical loadings of 4–6. Captain knows the channel currents between Meno and the other islands intimately — the Meno-Trawangan crossing has notable current patterns that less experienced captains struggle with.
Rental gear is on a 3–4 year rotation, well-maintained and properly serviced. BCDs are mostly Cressi and Mares; regulators similar; wetsuits are 3mm shorties suited to Gili water temperatures. Dive computers are basic Suunto Zoop models — bring your own if you have one.
The shop sells reef-safe sunscreen at cost for divers who didn't bring their own — a small detail that reflects the operation's general thoughtfulness.
Divine Divers partners with several Gili Meno bungalow operations for combined dive + accommodation packages. These typically save 10–20% compared to separate booking and are particularly attractive if you're planning multiple dive days. Mention accommodation interest when booking and they'll quote options.
The on-site simple bungalows attached to the shop are basic (fan-cooled, shared bathrooms) but functional and the most convenient option for early morning dives.
Two-tank fun dive runs 1.1 million IDR (≈$70). Open Water is 5.3 million IDR. Advanced is 4.7 million IDR. Discover Scuba is 850,000 IDR.
Multi-dive packages (5+ fun dives) get 10–15% discount. Course + accommodation combinations through partner bungalows save additional money on total trip cost.
Divine Divers' strength is the unique Gili Meno positioning. You're diving from the quietest of the three islands with a small, professional operation that has nowhere else to optimize for. The Nest sculptures, the proximity to Bounty Wreck, and the genuine calm of evenings on Meno create an experience you can't replicate from Trawangan or Air.
The trade-off is that Gili Meno is genuinely quiet. If you want dinner options beyond a handful of restaurants, evening entertainment, or a busy social scene to meet other travellers, you'll get bored quickly here. The diving is excellent; the island is decidedly low-key.
Book Divine Divers if you want serious diving paired with genuinely undisturbed evenings. Book them if you're an underwater photographer particularly interested in the Nest sculpture site. Book them if you're combining diving with a quiet retreat-style holiday. Book them if you've done Trawangan and Air on previous trips and want the third Gili Island experience.
Skip Divine Divers if you want a busy social dive scene with multiple post-dive options. Skip them if you're aiming for Instructor Development or technical certifications — those aren't offered here. Skip them if your trip is short and you can't afford the extra ferry hop and time on Gili Meno.
